About this Position / Responsibilities

NFF is seeking an experienced Infrastructure Architect to support enterprise-wide infrastructure modernization, cloud transformation, cybersecurity, and disaster recovery initiatives. This individual will work closely with the Chief Enterprise Architect and cross-functional technical teams to assess existing infrastructure, define future-state architecture, and strengthen the County’s technology resilience, security, and operational capabilities.

The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in disaster recovery (DR), business continuity, cybersecurity, and enterprise infrastructure architecture, with a primary focus on Microsoft Azure and secondary experience with AWS. This role requires the ability to lead technical assessments, develop actionable architecture strategies, and communicate complex technical risks and recommendations to senior leadership.

Serve as the primary architectural liaison for major facility move-outs, data center transitions, and large-scale workload migrations. Assess infrastructure capacity gaps and develop strategies to transition enterprise platforms to scalable cloud infrastructure.

Partner with infrastructure and database teams to evaluate enterprise storage capabilities, identify gaps, and develop recommendations for capacity, performance, scalability, and cost optimization.

Oversee hardware and software lifecycle strategies, including technology refresh planning, legacy platform retirement, and infrastructure modernization.

Lead archive and data retention proof-of-concepts (POCs) to reduce storage costs, mitigate risk, and improve data lifecycle management.

Collaborate with desktop engineering teams to define modern endpoint management capabilities, device and workspace security baselines, and provisioning strategies across on-premises, hybrid, and cloud environments.

Align cross-functional requirements for critical communication systems, including messaging platform upgrades, contact center capabilities, and unified paging and alerting architectures.

Establish and evolve enterprise cloud governance models, including cloud landing zones, account and subscription structures, and standards for secure, scalable cloud adoption.

Define and promote Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) standards, reusable patterns, and governance practices to improve consistency, automation, and operational efficiency.

Prepare architecture options, technical assessments, and supporting materials for Architecture Review Board (ARB) discussions and enterprise technology decisions.

Facilitate discovery workshops with agencies and technical teams to identify business requirements, technical constraints, dependencies, and modernization opportunities.

Translate discovery findings into practical architecture recommendations, implementation roadmaps, and actionable plans aligned with enterprise technology strategy.

Collaborate across infrastructure, cloud, database, desktop engineering, security, networking, and application teams to build consensus and align technical solutions with business needs.

Communicate complex architecture decisions, risks, and recommendations clearly to technical teams, agency stakeholders, and senior leadership.

  • Knowledge of Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) concepts, automation standards, and reusable infrastructure deployment patterns.
  • Experience evaluating enterprise storage platforms, identifying capability gaps, and developing hardware and software lifecycle strategies.
  • Experience with data archiving, retention, storage optimization, or related proof-of-concept initiatives.
  • Understanding of endpoint management, device security baselines, and modern workplace provisioning across on-premises, hybrid, and cloud environments.
  • Experience coordinating architecture requirements across multiple technical domains, including infrastructure, databases, desktop engineering, security, and networking.
  • Ability to assess complex technical environments, facilitate stakeholder workshops, and translate requirements into architecture recommendations and implementation roadmaps.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills, with the ability to present technical options and recommendations to architecture review boards, agency stakeholders, and senior leadership.

Preferred

  • Experience with Azure cloud architecture and governance; AWS experience is beneficial.
  • Experience with enterprise messaging platforms, contact center solutions, unified communications, paging, and alerting systems.
