Bring together your electrical engineering, RF measurement, and software development skills to help launch the next generation of Keysight’s RF and microwave signal-source instruments. As an NPI Engineer, you’ll work closely with R&D and production to develop production test software, automated measurement and calibration methods, and test fixtures. You’ll troubleshoot hardware down to the component level and use your findings to improve product performance and manufacturing readiness.
You’ll collaborate across R&D, Marketing, Sales, Customer Support, and Production, supporting instruments from new product development through manufacturing and ongoing product support. This role offers hands-on technical challenges, opportunities to learn from experienced R&D engineers, and a direct connection between your work and the quality of products delivered to customers.
We’re looking for a self-motivated, proactive engineer who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and is equally comfortable writing test software and investigating hardware issues. This position is fully onsite at our Santa Rosa, California campus.
Responsibilities
- Work within a multidisciplinary team, including R&D, Marketing, Sales, Customer Support, and Production, to introduce new RF and microwave instruments into manufacturing and support them throughout their product life cycle.
- Collaborate with R&D and Marketing to develop new product models and features, providing feedback on testability, instrument performance, and manufacturing readiness.
- Develop, debug, and maintain object-oriented production test software and automated measurement routines for RF and microwave hardware.
- Design and implement calibration algorithms.
- Design, develop, debug, execute, and evaluate validation and verification tests.
- Design, develop, debug, and bring up test boards and test fixtures to support Design for Manufacturing (DFM).
- Manage instrument hardware and the measurement, characterization, and calibration processes used during NPI development and into production.
- Design and modify test stations, analyze test data, and recommend product specifications.
- Perform hands-on troubleshooting of RF, microwave, analog, and digital hardware down to the component level, collaborating with R&D and Production to identify root causes and resolve issues.
- Develop specialized test tools, fixtures, or supporting hardware as needed to reproduce problems and investigate instrument behavior.
- Review and evaluate production test results and help establish production line specifications using statistical data analysis.
- Evaluate and specify product components, identify replacement parts, and extend product life through component replacement and targeted circuit redesign when needed.
- Create technical documentation for test methods, calibration procedures, hardware changes, and production processes.
- Manage and guide the transition of products and manufacturing processes into production and support them throughout the product life cycle.
- After product release, continue to manage engineering responsibilities for the system, hardware, and production processes, including investigating issues directly on the production line.
- Proactively seek input from technical partners across teams to resolve challenging problems and improve engineering methods.
- Use AI tools to support technical learning, problem-solving, and improvements in engineering efficiency.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- Typically, 4-5 years of relevant professional experience.
- Solid understanding of RF and microwave hardware, theory, and applications.
- Experience developing RF and microwave circuits or products, including measurement algorithms and validation tests.
- In-depth knowledge and practical experience in RF and microwave test and measurement.
- Experience developing and debugging object-oriented software for hardware testing, measurement, or calibration.
- Proficiency in hands-on testing and troubleshooting of RF, analog, and digital circuits, including troubleshooting down to the component level.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, analytical abilities, and a systematic approach to root-cause investigation.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with worldwide groups and engineers across R&D, Production, and other functions.
- A proactive approach to solving problems, including seeking input from technical partners when investigating unfamiliar or challenging issues.
- Willingness to use AI tools to support technical learning, problem-solving, and engineering efficiency.
Desired Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering preferred but not required.
- A demonstrated tendency to identify and resolve issues proactively.
- Measurement experience in one or more of the following areas: signal generators, signal analyzers, I/Q generation, time-domain analysis, or vector network analysis.
- Experience in manufacturing, product development, or new product introduction.
- Experience with statistical analysis, Six Sigma, and process improvement.
- Ability to formulate, implement, and debug measurement algorithms in modern, object-oriented test development environments.
- Experience developing test software in C#.
- Proficiency in calculating measurement uncertainties.
