Melbourne, Australia Hybrid Full-time

An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) professional to join a globally connected professional services firm. Based in Melbourne or Sydney, you will play an important role in supporting the delivery of KYC, AML, and customer due diligence (CDD) activities. You will assess client information, complete risk-based reviews, conduct screening, and maintain accurate case records. You will work closely with Risk, Compliance, business stakeholders, and client/engagement teams and resolve information gaps, escalate higher-risk or complex matters, and support timely client onboarding and ongoing monitoring.

Drawing on your understanding of domestic and international risk environments, and financial crime risks, you will apply policies and procedures consistently, exercise sound judgement, and contribute practical insights to improve KYC and AML processes. The role offers exposure to global networks, diverse industries, and complex client entity structures, with opportunities to build technical capability and progress a career in financial crime, risk, and compliance.

Key responsibilities

  • Complete KYC, AML, and CDD reviews for new and existing clients in line with applicable policies and procedures.
  • Collect, verify, and assess client information and documentation, including legal entity details, ownership and control structures, beneficial owners, and authorised representatives.
  • Conduct sanctions, politically exposed person (PEPs), and adverse media screening, investigate potential matches, and document clear outcomes.
  • Assess client and matter risk factors across domestic and international jurisdictions, apply the appropriate risk rating and due diligence requirements, and escalate matters as required.
  • Undertake enhanced customer due diligence (ECDD) for higher-risk or complex matters, including source of funds or source of wealth enquiries where required, and escalate matters outside delegated authority.
  • Manage an assigned portfolio of cases, prioritise work effectively, follow up with stakeholders to resolve information gaps, and complete cases within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and auditable case records in relevant KYC/CDD workflow systems, in line with firm policies and procedures.
  • Provide clear and practical guidance to Risk, Compliance, business stakeholders, and client/engagement teams, on KYC requirements and case-specific issues.
  • Identify recurring issues, control gaps, and opportunities to improve procedures, templates, systems, and operational efficiency.

What you'll bring

Experience performing KYC, AML, and CDD reviews, with the ability to manage assigned cases accurately and efficiently in a deadline-driven environment, with a minimum of three years’ relevant experience.

Practical knowledge of CDD, ECDD, KYC, and AML processes and requirements, including identity verification, beneficial ownership analysis, identification of red flags and suspicious matters, client risk assessment, and the review of complex client entity structures and financial crime risk indicators.

Strong case management and prioritisation skills, with experience progressing multiple matters, resolving information gaps, meeting required standards, and escalating issues appropriately.

A sound understanding of financial crime risk, including jurisdictional risk, sanctions, PEPs, adverse media, and other factors relevant to risk-based KYC/CDD decisions.

Experience applying KYC, AML, and CDD policies, procedures, and controls, with the judgement to identify unusual or complex matters and seek guidance where required.

Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to obtain required information, explain KYC requirements clearly, and work collaboratively across Compliance, Risk, business stakeholders, and client/engagement teams.

Strong attention to detail and record-keeping discipline, with the ability to prepare clear case summaries, document decisions, and maintain complete audit trails.

Strong analytical and critical thinking capabilities, with the ability to interpret information, identify inconsistencies, and reach well-reasoned, evidence-based conclusions.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain requirements, request information, and set out findings clearly for technical and non-technical stakeholders.

A collaborative, adaptable, and quality-focused approach, with a willingness to learn, respond to changing priorities, and contribute positively to a globally connected professional services firm.
