Senior Solicitor/Senior Associate – Corporate Tax and Tax Disputes & Litigation - Sydney

Sydney, Australia In person Full-time

Location: Sydney

We are looking for an experienced tax lawyer to join our Sydney Tax team working closely with Jerome Tse and other senior practitioners within our National tax practice across a sophisticated mix oftax disputes and strategic corporate and family office matters.

The opportunity

You will advise on complex tax questions where technical expertise sits alongside commercial judgement and strategy. Your work will span both contentious and advisory matters, giving you the opportunity to put into practice your already developed technical skills in often challenging and rewarding circumstances.

This role will see you work across

Tax disputes and litigation, from ATO/OSR reviews to managing regulatory notice responses to formal litigation

Family office and ultra-high-net-wealth (UHNW) matters, advising our family office clients, large private groups and UHNW individuals on their strategic tax objectives

Corporate and international tax, covering matters from corporate tax issues to transfer pricing to Part IVA to MAP/arbitration. You will also support our family office and UHNW practice, which will involve advising on Division 7A, asset protection and succession planning.

You will need a demonstrated ability to take ownership of matters, build trusted client (including internal Mallesons) relationships and work alongside senior practitioners who operate across some of the most challenging and complex areas of Australian tax.

About you

You will be a Senior Solicitor or Senior Associate with experience gained in a leading law firm or a professional services firm. Experience across all areas of the practice is not essential, however we are particularly interested in lawyers with corporate tax experience in a tax controversy and litigation setting, alongside one or more of:

family office and ultra high net wealth experience; and/or

transfer pricing or international tax experience.

You will combine technical excellence with strong commercial judgement, bringing clarity and insight to complex tax issues. You will be confident taking ownership of matters, advising clients, and developing trusted relationships. As a senior member of the team, you will play an active role in mentoring junior lawyers, contributing to business development, and supporting the continued growth of the practice.
