SALARY: £72,702 - £80,780
LOCATION: London
HOURS: Full-time
WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites. Colleagues with disabilities can be supported with workplace adjustments including hybrid working expectations in line with our Flexibility Works policy.
About the role
We’re looking for an experienced Product Designer to join our Commercial Experience Design team and help transform how customers and colleagues experience commercial lending.
You’ll work across complex lending journeys, turning customer needs, business requirements and technical constraints into simple, intuitive digital experiences.
This is a hands-on role spanning discovery through to delivery. You’ll understand problems, shape journeys, develop concepts, create and test prototypes and work closely with Product, Engineering, Content, Research and business specialists to bring experiences to life.
Importantly, we’re also looking for someone who wants to rethink how design itself gets done.
You'll actively explore how AI can improve the speed, quality and effectiveness of the design workflow, using emerging tools and approaches to accelerate research synthesis, ideation, prototyping and iteration, while applying strong design judgement to the outputs.
What you’ll be doing
Design end-to-end product experiences
Design customer and colleague experiences across complex commercial lending journeys, considering everything from initial exploration and eligibility through application, fulfilment and servicing.
Turn complexity into simple experiences
Understand complicated processes, policies, customer needs and technology constraints and translate them into clear journeys, interactions and interfaces. You’ll be comfortable moving between the big picture journey and the detail of an individual interaction.
Prototype and iterate rapidly
Create user flows, concepts, wireframes and high-fidelity prototypes using Figma and other prototyping tools, moving rapidly from an idea to something customers, colleagues and stakeholders can experience and react to.
Design from evidence
Work closely with Design Research and use customer insight, usability testing, analytics and experimentation to challenge assumptions and improve designs.
Facilitate collaborative design
Plan and facilitate workshops, design sprints, critiques and collaborative design sessions that bring together Product, Engineering, Content, Research and subject-matter experts.
Bring AI into the design workflow
A significant part of this role will be helping us explore how AI can augment the product design process. We don't simply want someone who can use an AI tool. We want a designer who is curious about where AI genuinely makes the design process better and where human judgement remains essential.
You'll be encouraged to
- Critically evaluate AI-generated outputs rather than accepting them at face value.
- Experiment with generative AI and AI-assisted design tools as part of everyday product design.
- Explore using AI to accelerate research synthesis, opportunity identification, ideation, user stories, journey development and concept generation.
- Use AI to move more quickly from problem → hypothesis → prototype → test → iteration.
- Experiment with AI-assisted wireframing and prototyping, while maintaining control over interaction quality, accessibility and customer outcomes.
- Explore how AI can generate multiple design directions and variations earlier in the process, allowing teams to test alternatives rather than prematurely converging on one solution.
- Design and experiment with agentic workflows, including Model Context Protocol (MCP), to connect AI agents with design, research and delivery tools in a controlled and repeatable way.
- Use GitHub and Git to manage, version and collaborate on prompts, agent configurations, prototypes and AI-enabled workflow assets.
- Develop reusable prompts, workflows, agents and patterns that make successful AI-supported approaches repeatable across the design team.
- Share successful experiments with the wider design community so they can become part of our evolving design practice.
- The goal isn't simply to produce designs faster.
- It's to use AI to help us explore more possibilities, learn earlier and improve the quality of what ultimately reaches customers and colleagues.
- Why join us?
- We’re investing billions in our people, places and tech to change the way we meet the needs of our 28 million customers. We’re growing, and we’d love you to be part of the journey.
- What we’re looking for?
- Strong experience as a Product Designer, UX Designer or Interaction Designer working on digital products or services.
- Excellent interaction design, user-flow, wireframing and prototyping skills.
- Strong hands-on capability in Figma.
- Experience taking problems from discovery and concept development through detailed design and delivery.
- Strong understanding of human-centred and evidence-led design.
- Experience using AI in the design workflow, even if it failed.
- Experience using customer research and testing to improve designs.
- Ability to simplify highly complex processes and information.
- Strong facilitation and collaborative design skills.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary Product and Engineering teams.
- Ability to clearly explain and defend design decisions.
- Good understanding of accessibility and inclusive design.
- AI mindset and capability
- Are already experimenting with generative AI as part of their design practice.
- Can demonstrate examples of AI accelerating or improving their design process.
- Understand that good prompting isn't the end goal. Better design outcomes are.
- Are interested in AI-assisted research, ideation, prototyping and iteration.
- Can recognise weak AI-generated outputs and apply strong design judgement to improve or reject them.
- Are comfortable experimenting, learning and sharing what works.
- Think about how successful experiments can become repeatable workflows rather than one-off tricks.
- Are curious about the changing relationship between designers, AI agents and multidisciplinary product teams.
- We wouldn't expect candidates to be experts in every emerging AI design tool. We'd value curiosity, experimentation and evidence of applying AI thoughtfully over expertise in one platform.
- And any experience of these would be great
- Financial services, lending, fintech or another regulated environment.
- Practical experience creating or contributing to agentic AI and MCP-enabled workflows.
- Working knowledge of GitHub and Git for version control and collaboration.
- Designing complex application, eligibility, decisioning, consent, documentation or fulfilment journeys.
- Customer and colleague-facing digital products.
- Usability testing and experimentation.
- Design systems and component-based design.
- Rapid prototyping.
- AI-enabled product or service design.
- Building reusable AI prompts, workflows or agents.
- We know that great talent comes from many backgrounds. Whilst this job advert may reference specific years of experience, we recognise that skills are developed in many ways, so if you have relevant, transferable experience, we encourage you to apply.
