As the largest global shared micromobility business, Lime is on a mission to build a future where transportation is shared, affordable and carbon-free. A Time Magazine 100 Most Influential Company, Lime has powered more than one billion rides in close to 30 countries across five continents, spurring a new generation of clean alternatives to car ownership. Learn more at li.me . Platform Engineering owns the internal tooling that lets Lime's engineering org build, ship, and operate at scale via developer experience, AI, and ML tooling alike.
This role treats those as one continuous problem, not three separate mandates: the same person shipping CI/CD tooling this month should be just as comfortable shipping an internal AI tool or an ML platform capability the next, because the underlying tooling problems are the same, adoption, workflow fit, and reducing engineering toil. We're looking for someone who thrives without a playbook. Much of this role is genuinely undefined, there's no established pattern for how internal tooling gets built and adopted across DevExp, AI, and ML, and the right person treats that as the interesting part of the job, not a blocker.
You'll iterate in public, ship something imperfect, watch how the team actually uses it, and rebuild. You're also comfortable enough with core infrastructure (Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD) to own production and compliance responsibilities the moment you're ramped, not months later. As a Staff Engineer on this team, you're expected to operate across production infrastructure and reliability, developer tooling and CI/CD, ML/AI platform engineering, and cost and observability, rotating in wherever the team needs support rather than staying fixed in one lane.
That range is core to the role, not a bonus. This is a remote position with a requirement for candidates to reside in Canada to maintain effective collaboration across teams. What You’ll Do: Own and evolve Lime's internal tooling across developer experience, AI, and ML, from CI/CD and internal dev tools to our MCP framework and Claude Code tooling standards, as one connected tooling surface rather than separate lanes.
Rotate across infrastructure and reliability, developer tooling and CI/CD, ML/AI platform work, and cost and observability as team needs shift, lending hands-on support where it's most useful, rather than staying fixed to a single specialization. Operationalize the org's AI adoption metrics and reporting, turning informal usage into something leadership can actually see and act on. Build tooling that other engineers actually adopt, whether it's a DevExp utility, an AI-assisted workflow, or an ML platform capability, not just scripts nobody else touches.
Take ownership of SOX-adjacent infrastructure work (Flux reconciliation, breakglass access, monitor tagging) as a standing part of the role, not a side project. Mentor and level up other engineers, including senior engineers, particularly on infrastructure fundamentals (Terraform, deployment tooling). Partner cross-functionally to identify where internal tooling and automation genuinely reduce engineering toil, and say no to the ideas that don't.
Advise Platform leadership on technology adoption and process improvements as the team's internal tooling voice. Design and operate platform-as-a-service systems, internal developer platforms and self-service infrastructure that other engineering teams build directly on top of. Own technical strategy in areas where none exists yet, building architecture your own team and other teams can rely on, and write clear postmortems that drive improvements beyond your own team.
About You: 5+ years of professional software or infrastructure engineering experience, with a track record of shipping tools other engineers actually use. Demonstrated comfort operating in ambiguity: you can turn a vague, unscoped problem into a working v1 without waiting for a spec. Meaningful hands-on experience in at least two of the following, with working familiarity in a third: production infrastructure and reliability, developer tooling and CI/CD, ML/AI platform engineering, cost and observability.
Working proficiency in AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, and CI/CD systems, enough to own production and compliance-adjacent work independently. Experience mentoring other engineers, particularly on infrastructure or platform fundamentals. Strong written and verbal communication, you'll be advising leadership directly on tooling and process decisions. Preferred Experience: Direct experience with LLM/agent tooling, MCP or building internal AI developer tools.
Exposure to SOX or other compliance frameworks in an infrastructure context. PlanetScale, Vitess, or other distributed database operational experience. Experience in a startup or fast-changing environment where the org itself is still being defined. Meaningful hands-on experience across all four areas, infrastructure and reliability, developer tooling and CI/CD, ML/AI platforms, and cost and observability, rather than just two or three.
