DevOps Lead - Data Platforms

Corporate Engineering, AI and DataEngineering

Role Overview

We build and operate the platforms colleagues use to create, share, discover, govern, and consume trusted data across the organisation. Our services support analytics, automation, machine learning, and AI-enabled capabilities through secure, resilient, and reusable platform foundations.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Corporate Data Cloud, you will lead DevOps, platform automation, and operational reliability across our Data Platform services. You will work closely with Platform Engineers, Architects, Product Owners, Central Cloud Engineering, Cyber Security, and delivery teams to improve delivery, strengthen controls, and simplify platform operations.

This role succeeds when teams can release changes safely, recover quickly from issues, meet cloud engineering standards, and spend more time delivering value than managing infrastructure.

What You will Do

Build and Improve Platform Engineering

We are investing in modern engineering practices that make our platforms easier to build, operate, and support.

You will

  • Define and promote DevOps, DevSecOps, and Platform Engineering practices across the Data Platform capability.
  • Develop reusable automation, CI/CD pipelines, engineering templates, and self-service tooling that help teams move faster.
  • Improve platform onboarding and delivery through Infrastructure as Code, automation, and standard patterns.
  • Reduce operational complexity by replacing manual processes with repeatable engineering practices.
  • Strengthen Reliability, Security, and Compliance
  • We believe reliable and secure platforms are built into the engineering
  • process, not added afterwards.

You will

  • Improve monitoring, observability, alerting, operational visibility, and service health across platform services.
  • Ensure AWS services and platform components align with standards and controls defined by Central Cloud Engineering and Cyber Security teams.
  • Identify, prioritise, and coordinate remediation of vulnerabilities, cloud configuration findings, compliance gaps, and operational risks.
  • Lead incident response, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement activities that strengthen platform resilience.
  • Maintain operational documentation, controls, and evidence required for audit and compliance reviews.

Enable Faster Delivery

We want teams to spend less time managing environments and more time delivering solutions.

You will

  • Work with Architects and Engineering teams to implement approved designs using standardised tooling and deployment practices.
  • Coordinate release readiness, environments, and operational support for new platform capabilities.
  • Support onboarding of services and data integrations into Corporate Data Cloud.
  • Use operational metrics and engineering insights to reduce deployment risk, lead time, recurring incidents, and technical debt.
  • Explore AI-assisted operations, automation, and operational intelligence capabilities that improve service health and engineer productivity.
  • Lead and Partner
  • We work collaboratively across engineering, architecture, security, and operations teams.

You will

  • Coach and support engineers across DevOps and Platform Engineering disciplines.
  • Partner with Product Owners, Architects, Central Cloud Engineering, Cyber Security, and delivery teams to resolve dependencies and achieve shared outcomes.
  • Represent Data Platforms within operational governance, cloud compliance reviews, and engineering forums.
  • Communicate platform health, risks, vulnerabilities, and delivery progress clearly to stakeholders.
  • Promote knowledge sharing, continuous improvement, and practical engineering standards across the team.

About You

You are an experienced DevOps or Platform Engineering professional who enjoys improving reliability, simplifying operations, and helping teams deliver technology more effectively.

You combine strong technical skills with practical judgement, collaboration, and a continuous improvement mindset. You are comfortable working across engineering, architecture, operations, and security teams while balancing delivery speed, platform stability, and compliance requirements.

You Will Bring

  • 6+ years of experience in DevOps, Platform Engineering, Cloud Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, or related technology disciplines.
  • Experience supporting enterprise Data, Analytics, or Cloud platforms in production environments.
  • Strong knowledge of CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, automation, configuration management, and release engineering practices.
  • Practical experience with AWS and modern Data Platform technologies such as Snowflake, Microsoft Fabric, or equivalent cloud-based solutions.
  • Experience implementing cloud engineering standards and remediating security vulnerabilities, compliance findings, and operational risks.
  • Knowledge of monitoring, observability, incident management, problem management, and service reliability practices.
  • Understanding of cloud security controls, operational risk management, audit requirements, and IT service management principles.
  • Experience leading technical work and collaborating across matrixed delivery teams.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Experience working within regulated or operationally complex environments is advantageous.
  • A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

How We Work

  • We automate wherever it improves safety, speed, reliability, or consistency.
  • We build platforms that are secure, resilient, scalable, and easy to operate.
  • We favour reusable tooling, common patterns, and self-service capabilities over one-off solutions.
  • We learn from production, measure outcomes, and continuously improve.
  • We work closely with engineering and control functions to ensure the compliant path is also the simplest path.
  • We believe the best solutions are created through collaboration, ownership, and shared learning.

Why This Role Matters

Every analytics, automation, machine learning, and AI initiative depends on reliable platform services and strong engineering foundations.

As DevOps Lead, you will influence how Data Platform capabilities are built, secured, deployed, and operated. Your work will help teams deliver changes faster, improve service reliability, strengthen cloud compliance, and create a better engineering experience across Corporate Data Cloud.

This is a role with visible impact, broad technical exposure, and the opportunity to shape the future of Platform Engineering within Data Platforms.

Inclusion and Accessibility

We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where everyone can do their best work.

We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. We believe diverse teams build better solutions and stronger products.
