Location: Buffalo, NY
This role is four days onsite at our Seneca One Buffalo, NY location, with the flexibility to work from home one day per week
Overview
The Business Systems Analyst III works closely with business partners, product owners, engineers, architects, operations teams, risk and cybersecurity partners, other application teams, and outside vendors that support the Product & Pricing Catalog ecosystem. This person helps move work from early discovery and requirements through design, testing, implementation, and production follow-up. The role includes documenting business and system needs, understanding batch and API integrations, coordinating testing and issue resolution, tracking risks and dependencies, and supporting the approvals and readiness work needed for production.
We are looking for someone who can work independently, manage several efforts at once, and become comfortable with deposit products and pricing, vendor platforms, cloud modernization, data movement, and connected banking applications.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead requirements and analysis for enhancements, regulatory changes, production fixes, modernization efforts, and other moderately complex work.
- Write and maintain business requirements, functional requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, process flows, data mappings, interface requirements, test case management, and decision records.
- Understand how work moves across APIs, microservices, batch jobs, inbound and outbound files, source systems, vendor platforms, and downstream applications.
- Lead discovery, backlog refinement, design, testing, implementation-readiness, and follow-up discussions with business and technology teams.
- Work with engineers and architects to identify dependencies, constraints, integration impacts, environment needs, security concerns, resiliency needs, and operational impacts.
- Turn business needs into clear, workable requirements and make sure the proposed solution addresses the original need.
- Act as the functional lead for assigned applications or initiatives and help less experienced analysts build their knowledge of the domain and delivery process.
- Work directly with external vendors to answer questions, close requirement gaps, review designs and configurations, validate deliverables, and coordinate dependencies.
- Help build and coordinate test plans, test cases, expected results, test data, requirements coverage, and evidence for system, integration, regression, and user acceptance testing.
- Perform or support testing, coordinate defect review, confirm fixes, report testing status, and make sure open issues are resolved or accepted before implementation.
- Evaluate how changes affect connected applications and work with upstream and downstream teams to confirm ownership, schedules, interface changes, and overall readiness.
- Support required SDLC and release work, including permits, production-readiness evidence, release packages, implementation and validation plans, backout plans, change records, and audit documentation.
- Keep scope, milestones, risks, issues, assumptions, dependencies, decisions, and action items current in Jira, ServiceNow, and other team tools.
- Support cloud migration and application lifecycle work, including environment readiness, infrastructure and connectivity needs, cybersecurity reviews, resiliency, disaster recovery, data migration, and application retirement.
- Coordinate implementation activities, confirm the change worked as expected in production, gather feedback, and follow issues through resolution.
- Help investigate production issues by reviewing process results, data flows, logs, monitoring, file transmissions, and system or vendor dependencies.
- Build a working knowledge of product catalog, deposit products, rates, fees, offers, waivers, relationship pricing, and the data and processes that support them.
- Manage several priorities with limited supervision and raise delivery risks, unclear ownership, or unresolved decisions early.
- Follow the Company’s risk, regulatory, and control standards and raise issues that require management attention.
- Help address audit, regulatory, risk, and control findings in a timely manner.
- Support an inclusive work environment and represent the M&T Bank brand.
- Complete other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Required
- Combined minimum of 4 years' higher education and/or operational/business analytics experience
- Experience gathering, analyzing, documenting, validating, and managing business and system requirements throughout a project.
- Ability to understand connected applications, data flows, files, batch processes, APIs, interfaces, and system dependencies.
- Experience with test planning, test execution, defect review, implementation readiness, and production validation.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to investigate issues, spot gaps, sort through conflicting information, and recommend practical next steps.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, including experience leading discussions and explaining risks and decisions to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
- Strong organization and follow-through, with the ability to manage several moderately complex efforts with limited supervision.
- Ability to work well with business partners, engineers, architects, operations teams, control partners, and vendors
Education and Experience Preferred

Experience in banking or financial services, especially with deposit products, product catalogs, pricing, rates, fees, offers, waivers, or relationship pricing.
Experience with Zafin or another product and pricing platform.
Experience working with APIs, microservices, SFTP or managed file transfer, data mappings, scheduled batch processing, and system integrations.
Experience working with vendor-supported platforms and coordinating across vendor and internal technology teams.
Experience with Agile delivery and tools such as Jira and Confluence.

Experience with Azure or other cloud modernization work, including connectivity, environment readiness, monitoring, resiliency, or migration planning.
Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Kibana, Dynatrace, Azure Application Insights, or similar products.
Familiarity with GitLab or similar source control and delivery tools.
Knowledge of SDLC controls, cybersecurity reviews, disaster recovery, audit evidence, and technology work in a regulated environment.
