Outrigo is an industrial deep-tech company building Morph, an intelligence-driven platform that unifies computational design, simulation, metal additive manufacturing (LPBF) and automated assembly into a single traceable workflow. We develop high-performance hardware for the space, aerospace, defence and mobility sectors, pushing the boundaries of what can be designed and manufactured.
We are seeking a highly qualified Software Engineer, holding a PhD, to accelerate the development of Morph in three strategic areas: LLM-based agentic engineering workflows, knowledge-based engineering (KBE) models, and the digital thread from CAD to metal additive manufacturing. Working directly with the CTO and alongside our in-house software team, the successful candidate will build the intelligence that turns engineering requirements into validated designs and ready-to-print build files, with high ownership and a direct line from code to hardware.
All applicants must be eligible to work in Spain.
Responsibilities / What you will do
●Design and build LLM-based agentic workflows that parse engineering requirements, plan design and manufacturing operations, and orchestrate deterministic engineering tools through tool use, structured outputs, sub-agents and the Model Context Protocol (MCP).
●Develop evaluation, verification and guardrail frameworks for agents, ensuring that every AI-generated decision is traceable, checked against engineering rules and safe to execute in high-consequence hardware programmes.
●Implement knowledge-based engineering (KBE) models that capture design rules, product architectures and best practice as executable, parametric code, using typed rule engines and data schemas (e.g. Pydantic).
●Formalise Outrigo’s design-for-additive-manufacturing (DfAM) knowledge into automated manufacturability checks: overhangs, minimum wall and channel sizes, powder removal, distortion risk and post-processing access.
●Build the digital thread from CAD to the LPBF machine: automate build preparation steps such as part orientation, support generation, nesting, slicing and build file creation, integrating Materialise Magics (automation/SDK and Build Processors) or equivalent build preparation tools.
●Connect build preparation with machine and process data to feed the Morph Process Library, linking design, build parameters, inspection and test results so that knowledge compounds with every build.
●Integrate agents and KBE models with Morph’s geometry engines (OpenCascade/pythonocc, PicoGK) and existing simulation workflows, working closely with the in-house software developer and engineering teams.
●Software engineering best practices (version control, code review, automated testing, CI/CD, Docker and documentation) and use AI coding assistants to maximise development speed.
●Prepare technical documentation and presentations, and contribute to R&D grant proposals, publications and intellectual property.
●Adhere to Health and Safety legislation and uphold Outrigo’s workplace standards to create a safe and productive work environment.
Experience / Who you are
- ●PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Computational or Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field, with doctoral research involving substantial software development (essential).
- ●At least 3 years of industrial or post-doctoral experience developing engineering, CAD/CAM or AI software.
- ●Expert proficiency in Python, with a track record of shipping maintainable, well-tested code.
- ●Proven hands-on experience building applications with large language models (e.g. Anthropic or OpenAI APIs), including agentic loops, tool use, retrieval, structured outputs and systematic evaluation.
- ●Experience implementing knowledge-based engineering, design automation or rule-based systems (e.g. parametric CAD automation, ontologies, constraint or rule engines).
- ●Good understanding of CAD data and geometry (B-Rep, meshes, STEP, STL, 3MF) and of the additive manufacturing process chain.
- ●Desirable hands-on experience with Materialise Magics, its automation/SDK or Build Processors, or other AM build preparation software (e.g. Netfabb, Siemens NX AM, Oqton).
- ●Desirable experience with metal additive manufacturing (LPBF), including support strategies, process parameters and machine data.
- ●Desirable experience with CAD kernels (OpenCascade or similar), implicit/voxel modelling (PicoGK, OpenVDB) or generative design.
- ●Desirable experience in C++ or C#, and with MCP servers or multi-agent frameworks.
- ●Contributions to open-source projects and/or peer-reviewed publications are a plus.
- ●Fluent English.
- ●Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
- ●Excellent team-worker, who is agile, proactive, and has a "startup" attitude.
- ●Track record demonstrating creativity and ingenuity.
What we offer
- ●Competitive salary commensurate with your skills, experience, and contribution to the development of the Morph platform.
- ●The opportunity to shape the AI and knowledge layer of an intelligence-driven engineering and manufacturing platform from an early stage.
- ●Direct link between code and hardware: see the parts your software designs and prepares being printed in our in-house metal additive manufacturing (LPBF) facility.
- ●Involvement in high-impact programmes across the space, aerospace, defence and mobility sectors.
- ●Professional development and growth opportunities, including support for conferences, publications and open-source work.
- ●Potential for international travel.
- ●Access to a range of benefits that support your well-being, including private medical insurance.
