A Day in the Life
The Structural Heart portfolio within Medtronic’s Interventional Cardiology Therapies (ICT) Operating Unit is looking for a Senior R&D Engineer. This role will support the development and expansion of transcatheter heart valve replacement technologies through advanced clinical and preclinical imaging analysis, computational and anatomical modeling, and research activities for Structural Heart therapies. This role will partner with engineering, clinical, and scientific teams to analyze cardiovascular imaging datasets, develop predictive models, evaluate device-anatomy interactions, and generate evidence that supports product development, preclinical studies, and future therapy advancement.
The Structural Heart group develops transcatheter technologies for the treatment of valvular heart disease and aortic conditions. This team supports a broad portfolio of transcatheter valve replacement and repair therapies, including technologies used to treat aortic, pulmonary, mitral, and tricuspid valve disease.
This position is based at our Mounds View, MN facility and requires a minimum of 4 days per week on-site for in-person collaboration. This role may require up to 10% travel to support business objectives, in-person meetings and project activities.
In general, the following responsibilities apply for the Senior R&D Engineer which includes, but is not limited to the following:
Analyze clinical and preclinical imaging datasets including computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasound, and fluoroscopy to support structural heart research and development
Develop anatomical reconstructions, segmentation workflows, and quantitative measurement methodologies using advanced 3D imaging software
Create and maintain data-processing, measurement, and analysis tools using Python and/or MATLAB
Support product development and preclinical activities through image analysis, anatomical assessments, and technical investigations
Develop and evaluate predictive models that support patient screening, device evaluation, and anatomy-device interaction assessments
Generate technical reports, research documentation, presentations, and supporting analyses for project teams and leadership
Partner with cross-functional teams, physicians, and external researchers to support technology development and scientific research initiatives
Contribute technical expertise in cardiac anatomy, physiology, and structural heart disease to project planning and execution
