About the role
Position Overview
Milliman’s Milwaukee Property and Casualty practice develops innovative products and provides actuarial consulting services. Milliman Datalytics-Defense® is an e-billing solution designed for the analytical needs of insurance companies. The platform supports the submission, review, and payment of defense attorney invoices and includes dynamic workflows, escalation paths, auditing capabilities, and configurable business rules. It also captures and presents data that helps clients manage defense firms through peer comparisons and predictive analytics.
Our Datalytics team is looking for a Software QA Analyst to support the delivery of secure, reliable, and high-quality software. This role is ideal for an experienced manual QA professional who brings strong analytical skills, sound testing judgment, and the ability to identify issues across the user interface, APIs, and data layer.
Our ideal candidate loves to hunt down a bug, as much as they enjoy solving a puzzle, and they know how to prioritize what goes into the backlog. Even when tasks feel repetitive or mundane, they never lose sight of the little details that mean a lot to our clients. This role will benefit from your experience testing web applications, designing and executing test coverage for new features, enhancements, integrations, and defect fixes. This role also requires experience validating security-related requirements and supporting penetration testing efforts, including reproducing findings and validating remediation.
This manual testing role will complement our automated testing role, and we are looking for someone who can apply a practical, risk-based approach to testing in a fast-moving Agile environment. Joining this small, remote team requires proactive and open communication, adaptability, and a willingness to work closely with developers and product managers throughout the development lifecycle.
Responsibilities in this role will include
- Review requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria to ensure they are clear, complete, and testable.
- Under the direction of senior team members, design and execute test plans, test cases, and test scenarios for new features, enhancements, integrations, and defect fixes.
- Perform hands-on manual testing of web applications, including functional, regression, integration, smoke, and release testing.
- Test APIs and system integrations using Postman or similar tools.
- Use SQL and relational databases to validate data, workflow outcomes, and system behavior.
- Validate security-related requirements, including authentication, authorization, access control, input handling, and other common web application security concerns.
- Support security and penetration testing efforts by reproducing findings, validating remediation, and confirming that fixes do not introduce regressions.
- Apply a risk-based approach to prioritize testing based on business impact, technical complexity, and likelihood of failure.
- Document defects clearly, including reproduction steps, expected results, and relevant supporting details.
- Participate in defect triage and communicate test results, quality concerns, and release risks to the team.
- Support release readiness through pre-release and post-release validation.
- Collaborate closely with developers, product managers, and other team members to improve quality throughout the development lifecycle.
- Contribute to ongoing improvements in QA practices, test coverage, and team processes.
- Individual(s) must be legally authorized to work in the United States, without the need for immigration support or sponsorship from Milliman, now or in the future. This includes international students on CPT or OPT.
Professional Qualifications

- Experience documenting, tracking, and retesting defects.
- Experience working in Agile, Scrum, or similar iterative development environments.
- Experience testing REST APIs using Postman or similar tools.
- Experience using SQL or relational databases to validate application behavior and data integrity.
- Experience testing security-related requirements in a QA role.
- Experience supporting or participating in penetration testing activities, including reproducing findings and validating remediation.
- Familiarity with common web application security concepts such as authentication, authorization, session management, input validation, access control, and common vulnerability patterns.
Personal Qualifications
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate effectively.
- Proactive when communicating in a virtual work environment, seeks to understand and clarify, productive when working remotely.
