Department Overview
The Ecosystem Operations Team delivers solutions to the public safety sector. The group is committed to providing technology and tools which will allow customers to focus on their mission, and enable them to respond faster with smarter and safer decisions. The group builds integrations between different products and features such as Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), Records Management Systems (RMS), Jail Management Systems and Evidences management among other offerings.
Interfaces are typically between Motorola Solutions, Inc. (MSI) products and third party applications. The team is in charge of API Enablement front, providing solutions and governance over product API in the ecosystem internally or externally exposed.
We are seeking a Senior Quality Assurance Engineer to drive the testing strategy and execution for our API governance and integrations platform. In this role, you will act as a quality advocate from both a product development and a platform engineering perspective. You will ensure the robustness of our internal and external APIs, validate API Gateway configurations, and mandate governance processes. This role requires a balance of hands-on automated script development, strategic manual testing, day-to-day sprint validation, and clear documentation practices.
API & Gateway Validation: Test and validate API Gateway connections, routing rules, rate limiting, and security policies for all onboarded APIs.
Governance Assurance: Mandate and verify API governance processes, ensuring all new and updated APIs strictly comply with MSI ecosystem standards before deployment.
Automated & Manual Testing: Design, develop, and maintain automated test scripts for backend services and UI components (like the API Hub), while executing deep-dive manual exploratory testing for complex integrations.
Sprint Execution: Lead day-to-day sprint validation, partnering with Product Owners and Developers to define clear acceptance criteria and ensure seamless feature delivery.
Documentation & Runbooks: Maintain and review structural and user documentation, ensuring developer portals, API specifications (OpenAPI/Swagger), and QA runbooks are accurate and up to date.
CI/CD Integration: Integrate automated test suites directly into CI/CD pipelines (mostly GitHub Actions) to block non-compliant code from reaching production.
Mentorship: Act as the subject matter expert on software quality, guiding mid-level engineers and cross-functional teams on testing best practices.
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Ability to communicate in English on a daily basis (advanced level).
- 5+ years of experience in professional software testing, encompassing both manual and automated methodologies.
- Deep expertise in testing RESTful web services, API architectures, and system integrations.
- Demonstrated experience with API Gateways (preferably Azure APIM) and validating governance policies.
- Strong understanding of Agile Software Development practices and active participation in sprint ceremonies.
- Must be able to obtain background clearance as required by government customers.
- Experience building automation frameworks using tools like Robot Framework, Playwright, Cypress, or Selenium.
- Experience with Cloud technologies (Azure preferred) and container orchestration (Kubernetes).
- Familiarity Git and CI/CD concepts (GitHub Actions).
- Previous experience operating within a platform team setting.
