Location: North Sydney, New South Wales
Nine is Australia’s largest locally owned media company. We are home to premium, trusted news, sport and entertainment. Nine's assets span free-to-air television, free and paid streaming, publishing and digital audio, and digital outdoor and retail media. Our content reaches almost every Australian - meaning what we do has real impact. We bring people together, celebrate the big moments, and capture the everyday ones. As our iconic and emerging brands continue to evolve, we offer unique opportunities for you to bring fresh ideas, innovate, and make your mark on the future of Australian media.
Nine Publishing’s Metro division is looking for a talented social media producer to lead the amplification of our premier magazine and lifestyle brands at The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age, with a specific focus on Good Weekend, Sunday Life and Traveller content.
This role is pivotal to growing off-platform audience engagement for our much-loved brands, and will also spearhead their commercial evolution through impactful amplification and partnerships.
The ideal candidate is a creative, energetic and driven individual with a flair for creating impactful social media content. You will have the ability to think strategically and generate new ideas to grow our audience. You must have proven professional experience creating content for all social channels including Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, WhatsApp and Youtube, plus basic filming and video editing skills. This full-time role is part of the wider social team and will include a regular weekend shift.
You’ll have strong, confident writing skills, an eye for a news angle, the ability to work at a fast pace and be a stickler for detail and quality. Experimentation - and an ability to analyse what worked and what didn’t - will be strongly encouraged.
Key responsibilities
Audience growth and platform management: Lead the growth of Traveller, Sunday Life and Good Weekend audiences across Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp, and YouTube. Manage day-to-day accounts, including writing, creating and publishing highly engaging, on-brand social content.
Social and video commercialisation: Collaborate with the wider social team, video team and lifestyle contributors on bespoke vertical video and social content, and work closely with the Head of Growth and Head of Life on executing the commercialisation strategy.
New platform and audience opportunities: Work with the Head of Growth on exploring and capitalising on new platform, audience and revenue opportunities (e.g., Snapchat).
Bespoke client solutions: Create and execute bespoke off-platform amplification for premium clients, unlocking growth through branded content, affiliate integration and paid amplification strategies.
Tentpole planning and editorial collaboration: Collaborate with the Traveller, Sunday Life and Good Weekend editorial teams to plan social coverage for special editions, such as Good Weekend’s 52 Weekends Away and Traveller’s themed editions.
Monitor analytics: Track and meet follower and engagement goals. Use analytics to make informed, data-driven strategic decisions and regularly share performance insights with the Head of Growth and relevant editors.
What you’ll bring
Proven experience managing, growing, and creatively engaging audiences for a comparable brand, backed by refined editorial judgement and a strong affinity for the Traveller, Good Weekend, and Sunday Life brands.
In-depth understanding of social media platforms, algorithms, emerging trends, scheduling tools, and commercial capabilities (including branded content, affiliate integration, and sponsored content).
Excellent writing, grammar, and copy-editing skills to write smart, social-native content with an eye for headline writing and story packaging consistent with brand values.
Advanced digital production skills including copy editing, headline writing and story packaging. Image and video editing skills will be an advantage as will graphic design skills.
Confident presentation skills with the ability to talk to camera, interview talent, and contribute to videos in an engaging style.
A strategic, analytical mind skilled in using platform tools to track metrics, test hypotheses, and iterate content to maximise audience engagement.
Creative flair that stands out in a competitive space, paired with adaptability, a willingness to pitch in, and a drive to continuously learn new skills.
