Senior Software Engineer - SQL

Position Overview

As a Senior SQL Engineer, you will join our fast-paced Takeover team and be responsible for designing, coding, testing, and implementing fixes and enhancements in support of complex takeover processes. Working closely with the business team and other developers, you will produce solutions that meet the requirements of our carrier partners and regulatory bodies, and support high-quality reporting for the company. This role is ideal for an engineer with deep expertise in SQL Server, T-SQL, and SSIS who combines strong technical skills with business knowledge and a sense of ownership.

Key Responsibilities

• Complete research and problem-solving tasks with minimal supervision.
• Design, develop, enhance, debug, test, and maintain complex stored procedures and SQL solutions.
• Develop, modify, and debug complex SSIS packages with control and data flows.
• Prepare documentation and specifications, including file layouts and data mapping.
• Work in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities to meet goals and deadlines.
• Interface and collaborate with technology team members, business analysts, and project managers to clarify requirements.
• Combine IT skills with business knowledge to develop, enhance, debug, and maintain complex stored procedures.
• Design and develop tables with appropriate constraints and indexes.
• Create and update stored procedures, functions, views, triggers, and other SQL Server objects.
• Thoroughly review and test your own work to ensure accuracy, performance, and maintainability, and contribute to the development of test plans.
• Maintain awareness of information security requirements and scalability issues during design and development.
• Participate in technical design and develop from specifications under limited guidance.
• Demonstrate strong ownership by proactively managing deadlines, identifying risks early, and escalating blockers or concerns in advance when timelines may be impacted.

Qualifications

• 8–10 years of IT experience, including 7+ years of SQL programming.
• BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related subject.
• Hands-on experience with SQL Server, SSIS, SSRS, PowerShell, AutoSys, and GitHub.
• Strong T-SQL programming skills, including stored procedures, views, functions, and triggers.
• ETL design and development.
• Development of high-quality database solutions.
• Skilled at optimising large, complicated SQL statements and analysing existing queries for performance improvements.
• Familiarity with tools that profile server resource usage to optimise performance.
• Capable of troubleshooting common database issues.
• Ability to review and interpret ongoing business needs.
• Healthcare or insurance industry experience.
• Fluent in English, with great interpersonal and communication skills.
• Strong organisational, detail-oriented, and time-management skills.
• Critical thinker with strong problem-solving skills and a team-player attitude.
• Sense of ownership and pride in performance and impact on the company’s success.

Preferred Qualifications

• 5–7 years of experience as a Senior SQL Developer or similar role.
• 5–7 years of experience with SQL Server and SQL Server Data Tools (SSIS, SSRS) or similar SQL and ETL tools.
• Knowledge of TPA insurance business and the Duck Creek Claims data model.
• Experience with the C#.NET 4.5 framework and Azure Cloud.
