The role
EF is looking for a hands-on Finance Manager to lead finance for our Hungarian operation. You will own the quality of our financial data, statutory reporting, and governance, while ensuring that local insight is translated into clear group reporting and business decisions.
This is a visible role for a finance leader who can move confidently between detail and strategy: partnering with Budapest-based teams, shared service centres, Global Process Owners, central FP&A and tax specialists, external advisors and auditors. The role requires strong knowledge of the Hungarian statutory and tax environment, plus the judgement to apply it in a fast-moving international business.
What you will own
- Statutory accounting and group reporting
- Own end-to-end accountability for the Hungarian legal entity and financial operations.
- Ensure complete, accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and annual close, including reconciliation quality, balance-sheet substantiation and review of material estimates and judgements.
- Lead the preparation and review of statutory accounts and annual reporting, while ensuring robust alignment to EF group reporting policies and any applicable IFRS requirements.
- Governance, tax, and audit
- Oversee the local tax compliance calendar and coordinate accurate, timely filings and payments for direct, indirect, and special taxes, along with all other applicable local obligations.
- Maintain effective controls over PTP and OTC quality while working with outsourced shared services.
- Partner with HR and the payroll provider on payroll-related accounting, tax and social contribution, employee-benefit processes, ensuring the finance impacts are complete and properly controlled.
- Act as the primary finance contact for statutory and internal audits, managing the audit timetable, information requests, findings and remediation actions.
- Support the preparation of Board and management materials, statutory disclosures, legal-entity documentation and other corporate-governance requirements in partnership with Legal and central Finance.
- Business partnership and planning
- Partner with Hungarian business leaders and central FP&A to improve the quality of forecasts, budgets and cash-flow projections, and to monitor performance against plan.
- Provide finance guidance on contracts, pricing, revenue recognition, customer deposits, refunds, supplier commitments and other transactions relevant to EF's education and travel activities.
- Make finance easy to work with: translate accounting and tax requirements into clear, practical guidance and prevent issues before they reach month-end, audit or the tax authorities.
- Process improvement and leadership
- Work effectively across a matrix with shared service centres, Global Process Owners, central accounting, FP&A, tax and treasury teams, retaining accountability for local outcomes.
- Improve close, reporting, master-data, invoice, reconciliations and control processes through standardisation, automation and disciplined root-cause analysis.
- Lead, coach and develop the local/international finance team and coordinate service providers, setting clear expectations for quality, timeliness and ownership.
What you will bring
- At least 8 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including ownership of a Hungarian legal entity environment in a multinational organisation.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or a related field.
- Hungarian accounting qualification, ACCA, ACA, CPA or equivalent.
- Strong practical knowledge of the Hungarian reporting, direct and indirect taxes, and general legal topics impacting businesses in Hungary.
- Fluent Hungarian and English, with the ability to explain complex financial matters clearly to both local and international stakeholders.
- Experience with Oracle Fusion or another major ERP, strong Excel skills and confidence working with reporting, consolidation and workflow tools.
- A structured, analytical and solution-oriented approach, with strong judgement, attention to detail and the ability to prioritise in a changing environment.
- A collaborative leadership style and the confidence to challenge constructively, make decisions and operate independently while escalating appropriately.
- Why join EF?
- International exposure: collaborate with colleagues, finance teams across multiple countries and cultures and external partners.
- Ownership and impact: have a meaningful role in shaping the finance agenda for EF Hungary and influencing business decisions.
- Career development: build expertise across finance, international reporting, tax, controls and transformation.
- Purpose-led culture: contribute to EF's mission of opening the world through education, adventure,
- & cultural immersion.
- Inclusive workplace: join a diverse, multicultural community where different perspectives and experiences are welcomed.
- Note: The scope of this role may evolve with changes in Hungarian legislation, EF's operating model and group policies.
- Thank you for applying with your CV in English.
