MAJOR FUNCTION

Develops,implementsandprovidessupervisionofmarketing,salesandpromotionalactivities for sports/tourism markets that generate overnight stays in Polk County accommodations and create economic impact in Polk County.

ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES

Assists the Sales and Event Manager with creation and implementation of the tourism/sports marketingsalesplan.

TravelsextensivelypromotingPolkCountyasadestination.

Targetsand develops niche markets that increase overnight stays in Polk County.

Directs comprehensive sales efforts by planning and coordinating sales missions in target markets.

Responsible for assisting the Sales and Event Manager with budgeting, financial control and analysis.

Coordinatessalesandmarketingpresentationstoconsumerandorganizationaldecisionmakers about Polk Countyand to encourage and enhance the selection of this area as a destination.

Generatesandqualifiesleadsusingtourism/sportscomputerdatabasesandothersalesmethods. Prepares follow up reports, analysis and information.

Assists the Sales and Event Manager in the coordination and operations of Polk County owned andco-ownedspecialevents,includingbutnotlimitedtosecuringvenues,volunteerrecruitment, completion of special event bid applications, on-site special event set-up and management.

Developsandmanagesspecialeventbudgetsincludingrevenueprojections,expensesandvalue in-kind.

Negotiates and secures room blocks and rates for special events, conferences and meetings held in Polk County.

Developsandmaintains contactlistsforcurrentandprospectiveclientsfromstate,national,and international decision makers.

Develops and assists in the design of sales and marketing materials.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Graduate of an accredited four (4) year college or university and have a minimum of three (3) yearssports/tourismsalesandmarketingrelatedexperienceandhaveestablishedcontactsinthe sports/tourism industry.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Florida’s Driver’s License.
• Comparableamountofexperiencecanbesubstitutedforthe degree.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

This full-time position is based in Polk County, Florida. Flexibility may be required to support emergencies outside of regular business hours.

All Polk County BoCC employees will be required to work before, during, or after an emergency. During an emergency, employees may temporarily be assigned to work and perform duties outside the normal scope of their position, location and work schedule to fit the needs of the county and its residents.
