Position Overview
The Associate Director, Commercial Solutions is more of a commercial operations partner than a finance department role. The person is responsible for translating client opportunities into financially sound, operationally executable scopes. The role collaboratively creates deal structuring, pricing and feasibility, provides financial and staffing guidance across a portfolio of work, and establishes the controls, benchmarks, and decision frameworks used by account, investment, activation, Finance, Legal, and talent leadership.
This position is expected to operate with autonomy, collaborate with senior stakeholders, and escalate material commercial risk with a clear recommendation to the Head of Commercial Solutions.
The role reports directly to the Head of Commercial Solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial Strategy & Deal Leadership
First point of contact for commercial intake and feasibility assessment for high-value, multi-market, or non-standard opportunities; identify assumptions, dependencies, and financial approvals before commitments are made.
Develop pricing approaches, quote architecture, and scenario models that balance client objectives, delivery requirements, margin expectations, contractual constraints, and creator or vendor economics.
Provide a recommended commercial position to Head of Commercial Solutions, including trade-offs, risk mitigations, and escalation points; challenge incomplete or financially unsound requests.
There is an element of art and science as many times RFPs/RFQs are incomplete. Having strong logic and rationale on recommendations is key
Work with Finance team to ensure up to date rate cards, pricing tools, quote templates, approval paths, and commercial documentation; ensure changes are controlled, communicated, and consistently applied.
Financial Management & Performance
Partner with Finance and Activation to monitor forecast-to-actual performance, staffing utilization, overtime, pass-through costs, creator payouts, and scope consumption across active work.
Interpret performance trends and translate them into actions such as scope correction, staffing changes, reforecasting, change orders, or revised pricing assumptions.
Staffing & Capacity Planning
- Prepare concise portfolio-level time reporting and executive commentary on current staffing
- Collaboratively design staffing plans for new and evolving scopes by converting deliverables, timing, market complexity, and service requirements into role mix, level, allocation, and cost assumptions.
- Maintain a forward-looking view of demand, capacity, utilization, and capability gaps; partner with functional leaders and Finance on deployment, hiring, freelance, or workload-balancing recommendations.
- Assess the commercial impact of staffing changes and ensure proposed teams remain aligned to fee, margin, delivery quality, and contractual commitments.
- Facilitate staffing discussions across account and delivery leadership, resolve competing priorities, and document approved assumptions for use in scopes, forecasts, and resource plans.
Cross-Functional Leadership & Legal Proposal Support
Initiate the commercial workstream for proposals and scope of work development, including timelines, pricing narratives, staffing plans, quote components, assumptions, and approval readiness.
Collaborate with Legal to ensure correct scope templates being used
Operational Excellence & Controls
- Design and improve intake, quoting, staffing, contracting, and reporting workflows to reduce cycle time, strengthen controls, and improve decision quality.
- Ensure agreements, pricing, staffing assumptions, and approvals are traceable and stored in approved systems such as SharePoint or designated contract management tools.
- Act as an escalation point for complex questions, conflicting requirements, and exceptions that exceed manager-level authority.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Accounting, Economics, Marketing, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience considered.
- 7-9 years of progressive experience in commercial finance, hold co agency operations, pricing, resource management, campaign operations, or client service, including ownership of complex workstreams.
- Experience in a large holding company media, advertising, creator/influencer, digital, or professional-services environment preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to build and evaluate pricing, staffing, utilization, and forecast-to-actual models in Microsoft Excel.
- Working knowledge of statements of work, rate cards, change control, vendor/creator economics, and cross-functional approval processes.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy, confidentiality, and clear documentation.
Leadership Profile
This is not a coordination-only role. Success requires independent judgment, ownership of ambiguous commercial problems, credible challenge of senior stakeholders, and the ability to turn financial and staffing data into a clear recommendation. The Associate Director may lead work through cross-functional teams and coach junior colleagues, whether or not the role has direct reports.
