Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Senior Observability Analyst.
Job Overview
Reporting to the Section Head Information Systems, this position is responsible to lead the design, configuration, governance, and continuous improvement of enterprise observability capabilities across infrastructure, applications, networks, services, and digital user experience using Dynatrace, Selector AI, Log Analytics, and other monitoring platforms. Develop integrations, automation, monitoring standards, dashboards, and AI-assisted remediation workflows to enable actionable alerting, root-cause analysis, automated resolution, and operational reporting, including the governed use of AIOps, large language model (LLM), and agentic AI capabilities.
Key Accountabilities
Design, configure, and maintain end-to-end observability capabilities using Dynatrace, Selector AI, Log Analytics, and related monitoring platforms across infrastructure, applications, networks, services, and user experience.
Implement and apply core observability practices across metrics, logs, traces, events, and digital experience data to provide comprehensive visibility into service health and performance.
Develop custom integrations, extensions, Azure Functions, and API-based solutions connecting observability platforms with systems such as ServiceNow and Microsoft Teams to collect telemetry and enable automated actions.
Build and maintain automation, ingestion, and query solutions using PowerShell, Python, DQL, and KQL, ensuring integrations remain reliable as source systems, APIs, and operational requirements evolve.
Establish and govern entity tagging, metadata, management zones, alerting profiles, ticket-routing rules, and configuration-as-code standards to support consistent monitoring across multi-vendor environments.
Design and implement automated and AI-assisted remediation workflows, including Ansible playbooks, that respond to performance thresholds, anomalies, and operational events (service restarts, resource scaling, notifications, and incident creation), with human review and approval before production execution.
Apply AIOps and AI-driven analytics, including Dynatrace causal AI and Selector AI, to analyze and correlate monitoring, API, application, network, and infrastructure data, identify trends, diagnose root causes, reduce alert noise, and support timely resolution of end-to-end service and transaction failures.
Develop operational dashboards, reports, documentation, and repeatable work instructions using Dynatrace, Power BI, and ITSM tools, while collaborating with IT teams to improve platform performance and monitoring maturity.
Integrate and govern large language model (LLM) and agentic AI capabilities within observability and operations workflows, such as models hosted in Azure AI Foundry, to support root-cause analysis, incident summarization, and automation drafting, ensuring human oversight, data controls, auditability, and alignment with OPG Responsible AI standards.
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT, Engineering or a related field or by having the equivalent level of education
Over 6 years of hands-on experience with Dynatrace, scripting, and multi-cloud monitoring solutions.
Experience designing, configuring, and supporting observability and monitoring platforms, including Dynatrace, Selector AI, and Log Analytics.
Strong understanding of observability principles and telemetry data, including metrics, logs, traces, events, infrastructure monitoring, application performance monitoring, and digital user experience.
Hands-on experience developing custom API integrations, extensions, Azure Functions, and automation solutions using PowerShell, Python, Ansible, DQL, KQL, or similar technologies.
Experience integrating monitoring platforms with IT service management and collaboration tools, such as ServiceNow and Microsoft Teams, to enable actionable alerting, ticket routing, and automated workflows.
Demonstrated ability to analyze and correlate application, infrastructure, network, and API data to troubleshoot performance issues, identify root causes, and reduce alert noise.
Experience using Git-based repositories, configuration-as-code, CI/CD practices, dashboards, and reporting tools to manage monitoring configurations, automation, operational controls, and service performance reporting.
Experience applying AIOps, LLM, or agentic AI capabilities to IT operations use cases such as root-cause analysis, alert summarization, and runbook or playbook generation, including model integration through APIs, prompt design, and responsible AI controls such as human-in-the-loop review and redaction of sensitive data.
The successful candidate will exhibit uncompromising integrity and commitment to upholding corporate values, and the OPG Code of Business Conduct.
OPG is committed to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and accessible environment. If you require accommodation during the selection process, please contact [email protected].
