Oracle Technology/Software

Senior Core Infrastructure Engineer

Nashville, TN In person Full-time

Build the software that helps bring new GPU data centers online.

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) is expanding the infrastructure that powers demanding AI, machine learning, and high-performance computing workloads. Our Raw Metal Cloud (RMC) team builds the software that connects physical hardware with the systems needed to onboard, track, validate, and deliver that infrastructure at scale.

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Inventory and Hardware Ingestion team. You will build backend services, APIs, and automated workflows that track hardware identity, location, configuration, and lifecycle state, from incoming equipment through installation and ongoing operations. The accuracy and reliability of these systems directly affect how quickly teams can bring new GPU capacity online.

This is a hands-on software engineering role on a fast-moving project with significant business impact. You will solve distributed systems and data consistency problems, integrate with services across the infrastructure lifecycle, and turn complex operational workflows into reliable, maintainable software. You will own meaningful components from design and implementation through testing, deployment, and production operation.

We are looking for engineers who enjoy building, take ownership of outcomes, and work effectively as requirements evolve. We value clear technical judgment, simple designs, strong collaboration, and thoughtful use of AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery without compromising quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and operate backend services and APIs for hardware inventory and onboarding.
  • Develop data models that accurately represent hardware identity, physical location, component relationships, and lifecycle state.
  • Build ingestion workflows that validate incoming hardware data, reconcile discrepancies, and coordinate with partner systems.
  • Implement reliable asynchronous processing, including retries, idempotency, concurrency control, and recovery from partial failures.
  • Maintain consistent inventory information across services and integrations as hardware fleets and deployment sites grow.
  • Work with hardware, networking, data center operations, and software teams to translate real-world workflows into robust software.
  • Write automated tests, participate in design and code reviews, and improve service performance, observability, and reliability.
  • Investigate production issues and replace recurring manual fixes with durable engineering improvements.
  • Use AI-assisted coding tools responsibly, reviewing and validating generated code before it reaches production.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating production backend services, distributed systems, or cloud platforms.
  • Strong programming skills in Java or another backend language such as Go, Python, or C++.
  • Experience designing APIs, relational data models, and database-backed services.
  • Understanding of distributed systems concepts, including concurrency, consistency, fault tolerance, and recovery.
  • Experience delivering software through implementation, automated testing, deployment, and production support.
  • Ability to explain technical decisions and tradeoffs, troubleshoot complex problems, and deliver maintainable solutions.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to make progress in a fast-moving environment with evolving requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with hardware inventory, asset lifecycle management, bare-metal provisioning, or infrastructure automation.
  • Experience building ingestion pipelines, event-driven services, or durable workflows that coordinate multiple systems.
  • Experience reconciling conflicting data and maintaining accurate state across distributed services.
  • Familiarity with Linux, networking fundamentals, server hardware, or GPU infrastructure.
  • Experience with database performance tuning, schema migrations, and backward-compatible APIs.
  • Substantial hands-on use of AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor for implementation, testing, refactoring, and code review.
  • Experience validating AI-generated code for correctness, security, maintainability, and production readiness.
