Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan Finance/FinTech

Managing Director, Private Capital - India

Mumbai, India In person Full-time

Location: Mumbai, India

The opportunity

Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan is Canada's largest single-profession pension plan with C$303.2bn in net assets as of June 30, 2026. We invest and pay pensions on behalf of 346,000 working and retired teachers.

OTPP manages ~C$53B in private equity assets globally, including a direct investing portfolio of nearly C$40B with ambition to deploy approximately C$4–5B annually going forward. In practical terms, the scale and pace of investing are comparable to a leading global private equity franchise managing the equivalent of a ~C$20–25B fund but with the advantages of permanent capital, long-duration investment horizons, and no fundraising cycle. Importantly, this is not a passive capital platform. The mandate is highly sector-specialized and focused on building differentiated investment franchises.

OTPP's India office, established in 2022, has grown rapidly into one of our highest-conviction markets globally. With approximately C$6 billion deployed across private equity, infrastructure, growth equity, and credit, India is a core pillar of our global growth strategy.

This is a rare opportunity for an experienced investment leader to run OTPP's India private equity franchise at a genuinely formative moment. The person in this role will have the backing of a permanent capital base, a globally connected platform, and the opportunity to shape the strategy, team and market presence of an enduring India franchise.

Who you'll work with

The MD reports directly to the Senior Managing Director & Head of India and leads the India Equities team. The role works closely with Equities APAC leadership, global sector teams, Value Creation and other international offices, while maintaining clear accountability for the India franchise.

Originate and lead high-conviction investments

Lead, coach and develop the India Equities team through apprenticeship, clear delegation and regular feedback, while building succession and sector depth

Create a culture of rigorous debate, intellectual honesty, collaboration and accountability, with high standards for both investment judgment and execution

Operate as an enterprise leader

Work closely with Equities APAC, global sector leaders, Value Creation and international offices to bring the best of Ontario Teachers’ to India and to contribute India perspectives to the broader global platform

Communicate clearly and proactively with senior stakeholders and investment committees, bringing others along without compromising investment conviction

  • Strong academic background
