Job Summary
The Senior Labor Relations Advisor plays a key role in supporting labor relations strategy and operations across a large, complex, and growing healthcare organization. Partnering closely with the Director of Labor Relations, Human Resources, Operations, and facility leadership, this position serves as a trusted advisor on collective bargaining agreement administration, grievance management, labor-management relationships, and contract negotiations.
This is a unique opportunity to join a labor relations function in a period of significant growth and evolution. The successful candidate will help establish processes, bring structure to a dynamic environment, and contribute to building a scalable labor relations model supporting nearly 100 collective bargaining agreements across facilities nationwide. This role offers meaningful exposure to labor strategy, negotiations, and organizational growth, with future leadership opportunities as the team continues to expand.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as the primary labor relations advisor and subject matter expert for an assigned portfolio of union-represented facilities, providing practical guidance on contract interpretation, labor relations matters, and employee relations issues.
Lead the intake, investigation, tracking, and resolution of grievances and labor-related disputes while ensuring consistent documentation and timely follow-up.
Develop and maintain productive labor-management relationships with union representatives, facility leaders, Human Resources partners, and operational stakeholders.
Lead collective bargaining negotiations at individual facilities and support multi-facility or multi-employer negotiations through preparation, research, data analysis, strategy development, and negotiation support.
Conduct investigations involving alleged contract violations, workplace disputes, and other labor-related concerns, recommending effective and compliant resolutions.
Support the development of labor relations processes, training programs, tools, and resources that strengthen organizational capability and promote consistent labor relations practices across the enterprise.
Required Experience
- 3–7 years of progressive experience in labor relations, employee relations, human resources, or a related field within a unionized environment.
- Experience supporting grievance administration, contract interpretation, labor-management relations, collective bargaining activities, or related labor relations functions.
- Experience working in highly regulated, 24/7 operational environments.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in healthcare, skilled nursing, or other highly regulated and unionized industries.
- Experience within manufacturing, mining, or similar operational environments.
- Experience supporting multiple bargaining units across a multi-site organization.
- Experience gained in either public-sector or private-sector labor relations environments.
- Experience delivering training or providing guidance to leaders and Human Resources partners.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations, Industrial Relations, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
Travel Requirements
- Travel up to 30-40% based on business needs.
- Travel primarily supports collective bargaining negotiations, labor-management meetings, grievance administration, training, and facility partnership activities.
- While many aspects of the role can be performed remotely, in-person engagement remains critical for successful labor relations outcomes, particularly during negotiations and key labor-management discussions.
- Regular travel to facilities is necessary to develop strong relationships with operational leaders, understand business needs, and build credibility with labor and management stakeholders.
- Travel will primarily support facilities on the West Coast, with additional travel opportunities as labor relations activities expand across the organization.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong relationship-building, negotiation, and conflict-resolution capabilities.
- Ability to interpret complex collective bargaining agreements and translate contract language into practical, business-focused guidance.
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment and bring structure, organization, and consistency to developing processes.
- Demonstrated initiative, adaptability, and a collaborative approach to building partnerships across the organization.
