Finance Intern

Performance Foodservice, PFG’s broadline distributor, maintains a unique relationship with a variety of local customers, including independent restaurants and hotels, healthcare facilities, schools, and quick-service eateries. A team of sales reps, chefs, consultants, and other experts builds close relationships with customers — providing advice on improving operations, menu development, product selection, and operational strategies. Summer Intern Project Goal: Assist FP&A Finance team with data and dashboard standardization to enhance effectiveness of current & future analyses. Assist team with preliminary, exploratory data science tasks.

Summer Intern Project Assignment

• Work with Finance & Data Analytics Manager and team to:
• Leverage Natural Language Processing (NLP) and AI techniques to standardize MDM data
• Review FP&A Finance Team dashboards to implement uniform visualization standards
• Work with Finance Data Analytics Manager (Sameer Sarkar) on exploratory machine learning tasks
• Ex: model and predict impact of high SRC margins on sales volume

Intern will gain

• Data cleaning, wrangling & visualization expertise
• Apply data science techniques and AI in a business context
• Experience presenting technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
• Experience working in a corporate environment.

Required Qualifications

• Must be in close proximity to Richmond, VA
• Must be a rising senior pursuing a degree in Economics, Statistics, Data Science or related field
• Demonstrated experience with an analytical coding language (R or Python preferred)
• Relevant coursework in Data Science, Statistics/Machine Learning, or Econometrics
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Must be currently authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications

• GPA of 3.0 or higher
• Rising Senior (May 2028)
• Portfolio or examples of analytical projects (e.g. Github, class projects)
