Portland Leather Goods Retail & E-commerce

Enterprise Systems Manager

United States In person Full-time

Position Summary

NetSuite is the system of record for Portland Leather Goods: orders, inventory, manufacturing, purchasing, and accounting across the manufacturing operation in Mexico, the offices and retail stores in the US, and the sales channels in between. The Manager, Enterprise Systems owns NetSuite and leads the distributed team that keeps it running and keeps improving it. The Manager sets the priorities and standards for how NetSuite is changed, makes the go/no-go call on each release, owns the policy for the company's core records, and makes sure no system problem delays closing the books.

This is a hands-on role: the Manager also configures the system directly and manages the NetSuite account and the outside NetSuite consultants.

Key Responsibilities

Percentages are the approximate share of time over a year.

Direct the prioritization of NetSuite improvements (25%). Keep one backlog of change requests from Finance, Operations, Retail, and Digital Commerce. Work with each group's leaders to rank requests and make sure the team works on what matters most, and assign the team’s work so the highest-priority requests are delivered first. Define how support tickets are reported by process tower (procure-to-pay, plan-to-produce, order-to-cash, record-to-report, master data) so leadership can see demand and turnaround by area.

Lead and manage the Enterprise Systems team (15%). Direct the work of seven team members across the US and Mexico: five direct reports and two employees managed through the Lead, Manufacturing and Supply Chain Systems. Assign work and priorities, review and approve deliverables, conduct performance reviews, coach and develop staff, hire for open roles, and make recommendations on promotions, discipline, and terminations that carry significant weight.

Manage outside partners (5%). Own the NetSuite account relationship and the outside consulting partner, including scope, budget, deliverables, quality, and escalation decisions.

Set the standards for how changes are made (15%). Define how configuration is named and organized, where changes are built and tested before they go live (sandbox and release accounts), and the steps every change goes through. Settle conflicts when two process owners want to change the same setting for different reasons. Most importantly: hold team members accountable for following the established standards.

Direct release readiness and decide go/no-go (10%). NetSuite ships two required releases a year. Own the release calendar, make sure the test cases for every area are run in the release preview account, review the results from each process owner, assign test ownership across the team, and make the final go/no-go call for the company.

Own the policy for core records (10%). Products, bills of materials, suppliers, prices, and locations are the records everything else depends on. Set the policy for how each record type is created, approved, and maintained, keep a named owner on the team for each type, and hold each owner accountable.

Protect the monthly and annual close (10%). Finance closes the books every month and every year. Make sure no NetSuite issue, release, cost update, or integration failure delays that. Coordinate with the Technical Lead: ERP, who owns record-to-report configuration, and with the Lead, Manufacturing and Supply Chain Systems on the timing of product cost updates.

Hands-on configuration and cross-team coordination (10%). Configure and troubleshoot in NetSuite directly. Agree with the Manager, Technical Project Management which projects the project office runs and which stay inside the team. Make sure any change that alters how data is stored is reviewed by the Data, Analytics, and AI team before it goes live, so reporting does not break.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, Accounting, Business, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.

Experience

  • Seven or more years administering, configuring, or implementing NetSuite, including three or more years leading an ERP or business systems team.
  • NetSuite OneWorld experience with more than one subsidiary and currency in a single company.
  • Experience supporting a manufacturing operation in NetSuite (work orders, bills of materials, routings, work in process, and product costing).
  • Experience owning a release cycle and a change control process for a production ERP.
  • Experience managing an implementation partner or consultancy against a scope and a budget.
  • Preferred: experience in consumer products, retail, or direct-to-consumer commerce with marketplace and 3PL integrations.

Knowledge

  • NetSuite configuration: subsidiaries, roles and permissions, custom records and fields, workflows (SuiteFlow), saved searches, and the semi-annual release process, including sandbox and release preview accounts.
  • NetSuite manufacturing and supply chain: work orders, bills of materials, routings, work centers, WIP valuation, and standard or average costing.
  • Procure-to-pay, plan-to-produce, order-to-cash, and record-to-report processes and where each is configured in NetSuite.
  • Master data governance for items, bills of materials, vendors, price lists, and locations.
  • Integration patterns between NetSuite and ecommerce, point-of-sale, marketplace, tax, banking, and 3PL systems (SuiteTalk REST, SuiteScript, iPaaS). Reading-level familiarity with SuiteScript is expected; the development team writes the code.
  • Month-end and year-end close dependencies, including consolidation across subsidiaries and intercompany transactions between them.

Skills

  • Ranking competing requests with limited capacity and explaining the ranking to department leaders.
  • Writing clear standards (naming, change steps, sign-off) that a distributed team follows without supervision.
  • Hands-on NetSuite configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Managing a distributed international team across time zones, including remote staff.
  • Vendor and contract management.
  • Plain written and spoken communication with Finance, Operations, Retail, and Digital Commerce leaders.

Decision making

Decides the order of NetSuite work for the company, the standards every configuration change follows, whether each NetSuite release goes ahead, the policy for core records, and the outcome when process owners disagree. These decisions affect order flow, inventory valuation, manufacturing throughput, and the ability to close the books on time.

Problem Solving

Typical problems: competing requests from several departments with one team; a change in one area (for example, an item setting) that affects costing, reporting, or an integration in another; a NetSuite release that breaks an existing process; a system issue surfacing during month-end close; a consulting partner missing a deliverable. Problems usually span more than one team and require deciding who owns the fix and in what order.

Physical Activity / Environmental demands

Office and computer work: prolonged sitting, keyboard and screen use, and video and phone meetings. Periodic travel to the Portland office, the manufacturing operation in Mexico, or US retail locations will be essential to the role. Travel averages once per quarter but may fluctuate seasonally or as necessitated by business activity.

Language Skills

English: fluent in speaking, reading, and writing. Required for all essential functions of the position.

Employees must reside in a state where the company is currently registered to conduct business and process payroll. At this time, we are able to hire in the following states: Oregon, Texas, Washington, Florida, Virginia, South Carolina, Nevada, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, Colorado, Tennessee, New Hampshire and Georgia.
