Consultant - Software Engineer

What You'll do

As a Consultant Software Engineer at Principal Financial Group, you will lead the design and delivery of scalable, cloud-native solutions using Java, Spring Boot, APIs, and AWS while driving technical excellence across engineering teams. You'll partner with Product, Architecture, Security, and Business stakeholders to translate business needs into sustainable technical solutions, mentor engineers and Tech Leads, guide architectural decisions, and help modernize platforms through cloud, AI, and automation initiatives.

You'll play a key role in solving complex engineering challenges, influencing technology strategy, and ensuring the delivery of secure, reliable, and high-performing applications that create measurable business value.

You'll have opportunity to

• Drive architecture, engineering excellence, and technical direction across complex applications and platforms.
• Knowledge of Java - Spring boot , Advanced Java concepts , API knowledge
• Working knowledge on AWS project is must.
• Develop and Support decision making , good Business communication skills across multiple levels
• Provide technical leadership across teams, solve high-impact engineering challenges, and develop technical capability across the organization.
• Lead the design and delivery of scalable, secure, cloud-native solutions using technologies such as Java, TypeScript, Next.js, and AWS.
• Drive modernization, AI adoption, and apply emerging practices to improve engineering effectiveness and business outcomes.
• Influence architecture standards, engineering practices, technology strategy, technical debt reduction, and architectural risk management across teams.
• Partner across Product, Architecture, Engineering, Security, and Business stakeholders to translate business requirements into sustainable technical solutions.
• Mentor Tech Leads and engineers through technical coaching, design reviews, knowledge sharing, and capability development to strengthen technical leadership across the organization

Who You are

• As a Consultant Software Engineer at Principal Financial Group, you will lead the design and delivery of scalable, cloud-native solutions using Java, Spring Boot, APIs, and AWS while driving technical excellence across engineering teams.
• Experience: 8 to 10 years
• Technology industry experience with progressive responsibilities in software engineering, technology delivery, or engineering management.
• 2+ years of team leadership experience leading engineering teams.
• Education: Bachelor’s(Engineering)/Master’s in computer science or a related field.
• Demonstrates strong end-to-end delivery ownership and technical leadership.
• Uses AI, automation, and engineering practices to improve delivery efficiency.
• Proactively manages risks, dependencies, priorities, and blockers.
• Makes data-driven decisions using delivery and engineering metrics.
• Balances speed, quality, reliability, and business priorities.
• Builds strong collaboration across engineering, product, and business teams.
• Drives accountability, continuous improvement, and knowledge sharing.
• Focuses on measurable customer and business outcomes.
