What is the opportunity?
RBC’s Metals & Mining Equity Research team is seeking to hire an experienced and highly motivated equity analyst to lead coverage of the Australian gold sector.
The successful candidate will be an integral part of a high-performing research team with strong connectivity to RBC’s global Metals & Mining research platforms in North America and the UK. The role involves covering the Australian gold sector with significant engagement with RBC’s equity sales and trading team, institutional clients, gold company management teams, investor relations contacts and key industry participants.
What will you do?
Formulate and publish independent investment research on Australian listed gold companies, thematic industry notes, and timely production/earnings analysis.
Build and maintain detailed, asset-by-asset financial models for the mining sector.
Manage relationships with global buy-side clients, delivering investment recommendations and sector insights through regular meetings, calls, and marketing initiatives.
Coordinate and facilitate access to corporate management teams, industry experts, site visits, and sector conferences for institutional investors.
Ensure all research products and client interactions strictly adhere to RBC’s internal policies, global compliance standards, and local regulatory frameworks.
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
Bachelor’s degree in relevant areas e.g. Science (Geology), Mining/Engineering, Commerce, Economics, Finance or Mathematics.
At least 5 years of relevant professional experience, with a track record of delivering high-quality analytical work in a fast-paced, client-facing environment.
Prior experience in sell-side or buy-side equity research is preferred; candidates with a strong background in the mining or resources industry who are looking to transition into research will also be considered.
Strong financial modelling skills are essential — candidates must be comfortable building, maintaining and interrogating detailed financial models, including scenario and sensitivity analysis, to support valuations and investment recommendations.
Proficiency in financial statement analysis, valuation methodologies (DCF, NAV, peer comparable) and the ability to interpret and communicate model outputs clearly.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate investment views in a clear, persuasive and structured manner to sophisticated domestic and global institutional clients.
Experience interacting with institutional investors, company management or other sophisticated stakeholders is advantageous.
