Portfolio Manager- Technology

Oxford, United Kingdom +1 In person Full-time

Location: London Wall

About the Role

The Portfolio Manager-Technology will shape how the STMJ Technology organisation prioritises, plans and tracks its portfolio of initiatives. As part of the Technology Leadership Team, you will lead portfolio planning and the OKR cycle, providing a clear view of priorities, progress, capacity and dependencies. Rather than managing individual initiatives, you will establish lightweight governance that enables better prioritisation, informed trade-offs and alignment with strategic goals and business outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Portfolio Prioritization

  • Maintain a single view of all initiatives, including ownership, resourcing, progress, dependencies, risks and alignment to strategy.
  • Design and run the intake and prioritization process through which new initiatives enter the portfolio, and assess when an initiative is ready to start.
  • Make clear, transparent recommendations based on value, capacity, dependencies and risk, including challenging, deferring or stopping work when bandwidth is exceeded
  • Planning and OKRs
  • Run the Technology Leadership Team's planning and OKR cycle that includes objective setting and communication, progress reporting and outcome review.
  • Lead the transition to continuous planning, embedding it in the team's operating cadence.
  • Capacity and Resource Planning
  • Work with stakeholders across Technology functions to ensure each initiative is appropriately resourced and that no individual or team is over-committed.
  • Review demand and resource allocation across projects, programs and the wider portfolio,
  • Delivery Oversight, Risk and Compliance
  • Focus on delivery of outcomes rather than tasks; working with the delivery teams, highlight where business outcomes are at risk and need support
  • Identify dependencies, risks and duplication across initiatives. Own dependency management forums and approach across the teams.

Qualifications and Experience

Strong experience in portfolio management, enterprise PMO, programme management or portfolio governance within a complex, fast-paced organisation.

Proven experience developing and improving portfolio management frameworks and processes, not simply maintaining project trackers.

Experience leading strategic planning, goal-setting and OKR cycles.

Strong experience designing initiative intake, prioritisation and governance processes.

Ability to assess capacity, priorities and trade-offs, with the confidence to challenge, defer or stop work where appropriate.

Experience establishing and running executive operating cadences, including business reviews, planning sessions and decision forums.

Experience working at comparable organisational scale, ideally within technology, SaaS, digital product or multi-product environments.

Strong analytical and written communication skills, with the ability to turn complex information into clear, actionable insights.

A confident and credible influencer, comfortable challenging senior stakeholders and influencing without formal authority.
