A Staff DevOps Engineer is an experienced technical leader who takes ownership of designing, implementing, and maintaining complex DevOps solutions that span multiple domains - such as infrastructure, automation, and delivery pipelines. This role requires independence, accountability, and the ability to drive initiatives that impact the entire organization.
Core Responsibilities
Technical Leadership: Collaborate on long-term DevOps roadmaps and contribute to defining architectural direction across the organization, acting as a subject matter expert (SME) and technical leader.
Infrastructure: Design and manage scalable, multi-cloud or hybrid environments (AWS, Azure, GCP) using advanced Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles and tools like Terraform, Ansible, and CloudFormation.
CI/CD: Own and optimize build, release, and continuous integration pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions for large-scale, complex, and concurrent product deployments.
Reliability & Observability: Implement advanced monitoring, logging, and alerting systems (e.g., Datadog, New Relic, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack) to ensure high availability and proactive incident resolution.
Project Ownership: Independently lead DevOps projects - from planning through execution to delivery - leveraging a Scrum team composed of engineers with varying levels of experience.
Mentorship & Enablement: Mentor senior and junior engineers, create reference implementations and documentation, and elevate the overall DevOps maturity within the organization.
Security & Compliance: Integrate security best practices (DevSecOps) into the delivery lifecycle and ensure compliance with frameworks such as CIS or NIST.
Required Qualifications
Experience: 7-12 years of professional experience in software engineering, SRE, or DevOps roles.
Education: Bachelor’s or Master's degree in computer science or a related engineering field.
Orchestration & Containers: Expert-level knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker, and container orchestration at scale.
Programming: Strong proficiency in scripting and automation languages such as Python, Go, or Bash.
Soft Skills: Exceptional cross-functional collaboration skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and lead initiatives without direct authority.
Project Leadership: Proven ability to independently manage DevOps projects, build actionable plans, and deliver results.
