Renesas Electronics Technology/Software

Senior Staff Architect

Cambridge, United Kingdom Hybrid Full-time

What makes this role different

From product to platform. Altium 365 is opening up to customers, partners, developers and AI agents. The Altium Developer Center is the focal point: one place to find our APIs, SDKs, MCP servers and developer tools.

A real solution built on it. Renesas 365 is the first vertical solution built on Altium 365, and you'll shape the architecture for the ones that follow.

A domain worth modelling. Electronics design data links requirements, components, schematics, layouts, supply chain and manufacturing. Model-first, domain-driven design is at the core of this role.

One platform, many environments. Four commercial regions, GovCloud, China and on-prem, all served by the same platform.

AI agents on engineering data. You'll shape how agents work with design data through MCP, with the security and access control that enterprise customers need.

Influence, hands on. You'll shape the platform's direction and how architecture decisions are made, and still prototype and work in the code.

Why the Architecture team?

Join our Architecture team and help shape the future of Altium's products. The team works across Altium Designer, Altium 365 and Octopart; in this role you'll focus on Altium 365 and the solutions that partners build on top of it.

Altium 365 is a complex cloud platform, with technology ranging from microservices and event-driven data processing to object stores, relational and key-value databases and search engines, delivered both as SaaS and on-prem through Altium Enterprise Server.

We work cross-functionally with engineering teams across the organisation, its locations and languages. Teams make architecture decisions through an architecture advice process: we advise, connect people, own cross-cutting decisions and promote consistent architectural patterns across the platform. The role gives you a view of the whole of Altium's technology, and the chance to leave a lasting mark on how architecture is practised at Altium.

About the role

As Senior Staff Architect for Altium 365, you'll own the big picture of how the platform is structured and how it evolves. You'll drive a model-first, domain-driven approach to design, so teams agree on the domain before the implementation.

You will

  • Lead domain-driven design: facilitate domain modelling, define bounded contexts and maintain shared domain models.
  • Define the target architecture for Altium 365 and keep it consistent across every deployment.
  • Guide the platform's openness: API strategy, integrations, the Developer Center, and the architecture that lets partners build vertical solutions on top.
  • Shape how AI agents work with Altium data: MCP, authentication, scopes and security.
  • Advise teams through the architecture advice process, and own cross-cutting decisions and their ADRs.
  • Build prototypes and proofs of concept to test ideas before teams commit to them.
  • Review designs and mentor engineers.
  • This is a hands-on role: expect deep dives into a large codebase and complex production environments.
  • Essential skills
  • 10+ years in software development, with substantial experience as an architect of a large cloud platform.
  • Practical experience with domain-driven design and model-first approaches, including introducing them to other teams.
  • Strong C#/.NET, or another modern language and willingness to work in C#, and the ability to prototype quickly.
  • Experience building multi-tenant, multi-region SaaS products.
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems and data storage.
  • Strong understanding and practical experience with OAuth/OIDC.
  • Good API design judgement: versioning, compatibility and schema evolution.
  • Ability to quickly grasp complex systems and work with incomplete information.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, and experience influencing teams across geographies and languages.
  • Hands-on use of AI coding tools, with the discipline to review their output.
  • Nice to have
  • Experience with GraphQL, especially federation.
  • Experience with MCP, LLM-based tools or agentic systems.
  • Experience with government/sovereign cloud or China deployments.
  • Experience delivering a product as both SaaS and on-prem.
  • Experience with AWS, Azure or GCP, and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with EDA, PCB design tools, or the electronics industry.
