Textile Artist

New York City, NY In person Full-time

This CAD-focused creative production position is responsible for translating approved brand and product direction into accurate, presentation-ready and development-ready artwork. The role supports multiple designers and brands, works within priorities established by the CAD/Design Systems Manager and Creative Director, and receives project-specific creative direction from the responsible Designer, Senior Designer, or Creative Director. The Textile Artist also maintains disciplined artwork data, file, and system practices that enable efficient internal, freelance, and in-country collaboration

Responsibilities

  • Create and revise textile artwork, layouts, repeats, placements, recolors, coordinates, product mockups, and other CAD assets according to approved creative briefs and brand direction.
  • Translate design intent into technically accurate, development-ready files, including appropriate scale, repeat, color, resolution, file setup, and product application.
  • Prepare presentation-ready artwork and product renderings that accurately communicate pattern, color, scale, placement, and overall aesthetic.
  • Review completed files for accuracy and quality before release, promptly incorporating approved feedback while protecting file integrity and brand standards.
  • Support seasonal color development, artwork libraries, brand toolkits, templates, and other shared CAD resources as assigned.
  • Receive project-specific creative direction from Designers, Senior Designers, or the Creative Director while following workload priorities and operating standards established by the CAD/Design Systems Manager.
  • Follow established file-saving, naming, version-control, archive, and safe-file-sharing standards; maintain organized source files and reusable brand assets.
  • Manage multiple assignments across brands, confirm priorities and deadlines, provide reliable status updates, and alert the CAD/Design Systems Manager to workload conflicts, missing direction, or technical risks.
  • Enter, upload, tag, and maintain accurate artwork, colorway, copyright, approval, and status information in PLM, digital asset management, SharePoint, and other company systems.
  • Collaborate with Design Systems to troubleshoot workflow or software issues, document effective practices, and support consistent adoption of new tools and PLM processes.
  • Follow company copyright, trademark, confidentiality, artwork-release, and data-security requirements.
  • Organize final artwork and related files for clear handoff to Product Development, Packaging, vendors, freelancers, or in-country partners as required.
  • Support quality review of freelance or in-country artwork when assigned and communicate corrections through the established team process.
  • Maintain professional, timely, and collaborative communication and an organized work environment.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Textile Design, Graphic Design, Product Design, Home Fashions, Apparel, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • Three to five years of relevant textile CAD, print, surface-design, or home-fashions experience.
  • Advanced proficiency in NedGraphics, Pointcarre, or comparable textile CAD software and strong proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • Strong understanding of textile repeats, placements, scale, color separation, color matching, coordinates, file resolution, and production-ready artwork preparation.
  • Excellent color and design sense with the ability to interpret and execute direction across multiple distinct brands and aesthetics.
  • Experience maintaining artwork and metadata in PLM, digital asset management, SharePoint, or comparable systems; ability to learn evolving technology and workflows.
  • Strong organization, prioritization, problem-solving, quality-control, and deadline-management skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with multiple designers and departments, receive and clarify creative feedback, and communicate project status or technical concerns clearly.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time-sensitive assignments, adapt to changing priorities, and handle confidential information.
  • Professional portfolio demonstrating relevant textile artwork, repeats, recolors, layouts, and product applications.
  • Ability to speak and write the English language.
  • Previous experience in bedding, bath, product development, licensed brands, PLM implementation, or coordinating work with freelance and in-country art resources is a plus.
