About Rivian
Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract.
As a company, we constantly challenge what’s possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.
About the Strategic Finance Team
Role Summary
As a Senior Strategic Finance Analyst, you will take on unstructured, high-stakes financial questions that shape Rivian's financial trajectory. You will lead the development of novel business cases, pressure-test investment economics, and evaluate strategic opportunities with direct visibility to the C-Suite and executive leadership.
This role is designed for a self-directed modeler who combines rigorous financial fundamentals with strong business intuition. You will take ownership of complex projects from end to end—scoping the question, gathering and diligencing assumptions across cross-functional teams, building robust financial frameworks from scratch, and synthesizing recommendations into executive-ready narratives.
Why This Role Matters
Steward Enterprise Trajectory: Own core components of Rivian's Long-Range Financial Plan (LRP) to align product roadmaps, capacity plans, and multi-year operations with corporate cash runway and capital strategy.
Architect New Business Cases: Build rigorous financial models from the ground up to evaluate new market entries, technology investments, commercial partnerships, and make-vs-buy decisions.
Rigorous Cross-Functional Diligence: Partner directly with technical leaders across Engineering, Supply Chain, Commercial, and Operations to diligence assumptions, challenge consensus, and ensure data integrity.
Shape C-Suite Decisions: Translate multi-layered, multi-scenario financial models into crisp memos and executive presentations that drive rapid decision-making.
Modernize Financial Workflows: Integrate advanced analytics and modern AI productivity tools to accelerate data synthesis, sensitivity analysis, and scenario iteration.

What You'll Do
Build Models from Scratch: Develop dynamic, clean, fully auditable three-statement models, DCFs, and scenario frameworks from zero without existing templates.
Scope & Diligence Business Cases: Take ambiguous strategic questions, define the problem statement, source data from cross-functional partners, stress-test cost/revenue assumptions, and identify key sensitivity variables.
Lead Long-Range Plan Workstreams: Maintain and enhance core LRP models, partnering with FP&A, Accounting, and business partners to ensure assumptions align with actual financial reporting and historical baselines.
Run Scenario & Sensitivity Analyses: Model complex "what-if" trade-offs covering volume variations, cost-down roadmaps, pricing dynamics, and capital-intensity shifts.
Translate Finance into Action: Synthesize technical and financial complexity into punchy, high-impact executive decks, strategy memos, and board-level materials.
Drive Cross-Functional Consensus: Serve as the connective tissue across Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations, and Accounting to ensure numbers tie out and strategic initiatives remain financially grounded.
Required Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related quantitative discipline.
- 3–4+ years of total experience, ideally starting in Investment Banking or Transaction Advisory (FDD), followed by Strategic Finance, Corporate Development, or Private Equity.
- Advanced Financial Modeling Capabilities: Proven track record of building dynamic 3-statement operating models, returns analyses (IRR/NPV), and complex scenario frameworks from scratch under tight timelines.
- Accounting Foundation: Strong grasp of US GAAP, financial statement mechanics, revenue recognition, and capital accounting to ensure models tie out seamlessly to actuals.
- Strong project management skills, with demonstrated experience coordinating cross-functional stakeholders, reconciling conflicting data, and driving consensus.
- Executive Communication: Demonstrated ability to distill nuanced financial outputs into concise written memos and executive slide decks for senior leadership.
- Project Ownership & Influence: Strong interpersonal skill set to independently lead workstreams, run cross-functional meetings, diligence technical assumptions with non-finance teams, and tactfully challenge inputs.
- Passion for the mission: a genuine interest in energy, mobility, and sustainability.
Preferred Qualifications
- AI & Modern Workflow Fluency: Practical experience leveraging frontier AI tools (e.g., Claude, Gemini) or automated scripting to accelerate research, financial logic checks, and workflow efficiency.
- Platform Exposure: Exposure to modern data warehouses and planning tools (e.g., SAP, Oracle EPM, Databricks) is a plus.
- Sector Familiarity: Prior experience in hardware manufacturing, automotive/EV, clean energy, or deep tech capital investments.
