Working under broad direction, the role provides high-level strategic leadership, project management, stakeholder engagement, and compliance and policy expertise to ensure RMIT meets its legislative and regulatory obligations and delivers sustained cultural and organisational change.

The position will manage a diverse project portfolio and liaise across senior governance committees, Internal and external stakeholders, and sector partners. The position will be responsible for maintaining up-to-date records of compliance activities.

  • Manage and coordinate implementation of the National Code requirements, ensuring delivery within agreed timelines, budgets and quality standards.
  • Maintain up-to-date expertise in gender equity and gender-based violence legislation and compliance, providing timely advice to support RMIT’s regulatory obligations.
  • Support the planning and implementation of RMIT’s Gender-based Violence Prevention and Response Plan 2026–29 (RMIT’s Plan).
  • Coordinate RMIT’s National Code Working Group, including chairing, governance, action tracking and cross-functional delivery.
  • Lead the development and review of policies, procedures and guidelines to ensure alignment with the National Code.
  • Establish and maintain strong processes to track and monitor compliance, evaluation and annual reporting processes.
  • Collaborate with the Prevention and Respect team and the Safer Community team to deliver National Code requirements and actions in RMIT’s Plan.

  • Represent RMIT in sector networks and external forums to share practice and contribute to policy development.

To be successful in this position, you’ll have

  • Strong gender-based violence prevention and response expertise, with sound knowledge of relevant compliance and regulatory frameworks.
  • Relevant background and experience in government, higher education, large complex organisations, consulting, or gender-based violence/family violence organisations.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a role which involves overseeing regulatory obligations, compliance, and implementation.
  • Ability to translate complex legislation and regulatory requirements into practical solutions and organisational action, rather than taking a purely policy or advocacy approach.
  • Strong project management and implementation capability, including strategy, risk, financial management and organisational change.
  • Proven experience developing and implementing organisation-wide policies, procedures and strategies.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, particularly with senior leaders, government and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including developing executive-level reports, briefings and presentations.
  • Able to work collaboratively, flexibly and practically within a large, complex organisation.
  • Government or higher education experience would be highly relevant.
  • Relevant postgraduate qualification in areas such as public health, health promotion, gender-based violence, gender equity, social work or behavioural science, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Please Note: Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children and National Police Check.
