Rolls-Royce SMR Energy

Senior Logistics Operations Manager - Control Tower

Warrington, United Kingdom +2 Hybrid Full-time

Location: Warrington, UK

Our mission is to deliver clean, affordable energy for all. Rolls-Royce SMR provides a British solution to a global energy challenge, leading the way in Small Modular Reactor technology and shaping the UK’s premier green export opportunity.

Our Operations & Supply Chain function is critical to enabling delivery across our programme, with logistics providing the backbone for safe, efficient and reliable material movement across multiple geographies. A key part of this is the creation of a centralised Control Tower capability, providing real-time visibility, governance and performance management across our global logistics network.

In this context, we’re looking for a Senior Logistics Operations Manager – Control Tower to create our Control Tower function. Reporting into the Head of Logistics Operations, this will mean taking the Control Tower from concept (or “scratch” if you would), to our single source of truth for logistics data which in turn will drive performance, improve resilience and enable data-led decision-making across the organisation.

We have advertised and interviewed for this role and were fortunate enough to assess and interview some excellent candidates, however we found that through talking to them, sharing our challenges and understanding their experiences, we now recognise that we need our future SM to show you have created a Control Tower function in a complex, international, regulated or safety-critical industry and be able to build on your previous successes, and of course apply lessons learned from when things did “not quite go to plan”.

We know this advert should not just be about us – but we have a clear idea now of what is needed and that means we are looking for both the above and …

Proven experience in logistics operations, creating control tower environments, or supply chain visibility platforms across multiple geographies

Experience managing logistics performance through KPIs, reporting and analytics

Experience working with 3PL/4PL partners and logistics networks

Commercial awareness with understanding of logistics cost and performance drivers

The role itself will involve working closely with Programme, Construction, Engineering and Supply Chain teams to define, design and develop the Control Tower to ensure full visibility, proactive risk management and alignment with delivery schedules and this will subsequently involve:

Leading and managing the day-to-day operations of the global logistics control tower

Ensuring real-time visibility of shipments, inventory and transport performance across all modes and locations

Being the primary escalation point for logistics disruptions, delays and service failures

Defining and monitoring logistics KPIs, delivering performance reporting, dashboards and insights

This role can be based from our Derby, Manchester or Warrington offices, with hybrid working and regular engagement with stakeholders and suppliers.
