San Diego Stealth Startup Consulting

Senior IT Engineer

San Diego, CA In person Full-time

Position Overview

The Senior IT Engineer is a hands-on IT operational role on a small team supporting a fast-growing company. This role reports to the Director of IT and works closely with the IT Manager, Operations, Finance, and People Ops. This role is based onsite 5 days/week at our San Diego office.

You will own day-to-day operations of our core business infrastructure: identity, Microsoft 365, endpoint compliance, and the network alongside the IT Manager. You will also run the IT controls that support SOC 2 and future finance and SOX requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Core business infrastructure
  • Administer and improve Okta, Microsoft 365 (Exchange Online, Entra ID, SharePoint), and Intune endpoint management for Windows and macOS.
  • Own the identity lifecycle: role-based access at onboarding, the standard machine build, and clean, timely offboarding, in coordination with People Ops.
  • Support the network (Meraki, FortiGate) with the IT Manager as lead: diagnose connectivity, Wi-Fi, and VPN issues, make routine changes, and escalate to our network partner when needed.
  • Maintain endpoint security tooling and device compliance in coordination with the security program.
  • Serve as a reliable backup across all core systems, so the business keeps running when other team members are out.
  • IT controls and compliance
  • Operate SOC 2 controls as routine process: access reviews, change records, evidence collection, and remediation.
  • Build and operate IT controls for finance applications as they migrate in house, including access provisioning and review, separation of duties, change control, and audit logging.
  • Build our business continuity and disaster recovery program, including backup design and tested recovery.
  • Operations and documentation
  • Handle escalated and complex service desk requests. Address recurring requests through root cause analysis and implementation of automated processes at onboarding, or through knowledge base articles and self-service solutions.
  • Administer company AI tools such as Claude and ChatGPT, including access, licensing, usage guardrails, and use AI to automate IT work.
  • Write and maintain clear documentation, runbooks, and procedures that meet audit approval standards.
  • Lead IT projects end to end with minimal supervision.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and direct experience.

Required

  • 6+ years in corporate IT operations or systems administration, with independent ownership of production systems.
  • Deep hands-on experience with Microsoft 365 and Entra ID, an identity provider such as Okta, and an MDM such as Intune.
  • Hands-on network knowledge (switching, VLANs, Wi-Fi, firewalls, VPN) and the ability to troubleshoot methodically.
  • Experience supporting audits or operating IT controls such as access reviews, change management, or evidence collection.
  • Strong written documentation habits and clear communication with non-technical users.

Preferred

  • SOC 2, SOX ITGC, or NIST CSF experience.
  • Experience with finance system controls (for example NetSuite), including separation of duties.
  • Backup and disaster recovery design and testing.
  • Scripting for automation (PowerShell, Python).
  • Experience with CrowdStrike, zero-trust network access, and Jira Service Management.
  • Experience in a biotech, life sciences, or other regulated, fast-growing companies -- prior start up experience desired.

What Success Looks Like

  • Core systems are reliable and documented well enough that the company runs smoothly even when the rest of the IT team is out.
  • New hires get least privileged access and a working laptop on day one, and departures are fully offboarded the same day.
  • SOC 2 controls operate continuously, with evidence produced as part of normal work rather than gathered after the fact.
  • Finance application controls and a tested disaster recovery plan are in place ahead of audit and growth needs.
  • Recurring requests decline over time because their root causes get fixed.

Why Join Us

  • A modern tech stack, no legacy cleanup. Okta, Microsoft 365, Intune, CrowdStrike, and zero-trust network access are already in place.
  • AI is part of how we work. The IT team uses AI tools daily, and you'll help shape how the whole company adopts them safely.
  • Greenfield work you'll own. Disaster recovery, finance controls, role-based access, and the standard build.
  • Career-building compliance experience. Hands-on SOC 2 Type 2 and early SOX readiness.
  • Real scope. A small IT team at a company that is growing fast, with direct access to IT leadership.
  • Room to grow. Exposure to cloud infrastructure, life sciences data, and a new headquarters buildout.
  • A mission worth joining. An experienced leadership team building something new in life sciences tools and diagnostics.
  • We offer competitive compensation and equity package, comprehensive benefits, and flexibility to support work-life priorities.
  • Radian Bio is an equal opportunity employer. We thrive on diversity and collaboration.
