As Senior Technical Product Owner, you will lead product ownership for our enterprise API Management platform, built on Apigee, including its API Developer Portal and developer experience. You report to the Platform Owner, who is accountable for the platform, its engineering, and its operations. You are accountable for the product roadmap, priorities, and adoption.
Together with your peer Product Owners, you shape the future vision and formulate the strategy to deliver it. You own the roadmap and backlog for API Management and related digital platform capabilities: you work out what API owners and consumers need, decide what gets prioritized, and turn those needs into scalable platform capabilities.
You will work closely with engineering, architecture, cybersecurity, API owners, application teams, and other stakeholders to drive delivery and adoption.
What will you do?
Product Ownership & Strategy
- Work with peer Product Owners to shape the future vision for the platform and formulate the strategy to deliver it.
- Own the product roadmap and backlog for API Management and related digital platform capabilities, aligned with that strategy, organizational objectives, and user needs.
- Make the trade-offs between new features, modernization, security, and operational work, and between near-term delivery and long-term platform health, and be accountable for the resulting product decisions and outcomes.
- Define success metrics and expected outcomes for the product, and track adoption and the value delivered.
API Management & Developer Experience
- Lead the product direction for API Management across internal, partner, and customer-facing ecosystems, with consistent, reusable approaches to API onboarding, governance, and consumption.
- Own the product roadmap for the API Developer Portal, including API discovery, documentation, application onboarding, subscription, and self-service.
- Work with engineering and architecture teams to keep the platform secure, reliable, scalable, and easy to consume.
Business Analysis & Value Realization
- Lead requirement discovery and workshops with stakeholders, and turn business and technical needs into clear requirements, features, and priorities.
- Develop business cases, investment proposals, and value assessments for key product initiatives.
- What are the key skills we are looking for?
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 6+ years of professional experience in technology products, digital platforms, API Management, integration, or related areas, including 2+ years in Product Ownership, Technical Product Management, Platform Product Management, or a similar role.
- Demonstrated experience owning product roadmaps, backlogs, priorities, requirements, and delivery outcomes in an Agile delivery environment.
- Experience working on an enterprise API Management platform (Apigee, MuleSoft, Azure API Management, Kong, or similar), and with API developer portals, API catalogs, or other developer-facing platforms.
- Working knowledge of API design, lifecycle, and security: REST and OpenAPI specifications, versioning and deprecation, OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect, rate limiting, and quotas.
- Able to read an API specification and write requirements engineers can build from, including non-functional requirements such as security, performance, and availability.
- Experience turning business problems into prioritized requirements, and developing business cases, value propositions, and product recommendations.
- What qualifications will make you successful?
- Experience with Apigee, the platform this role works on, including its core concepts: API proxies, API products, developer apps, policies, and analytics.
- Experience improving developer experience, self-service capabilities, and platform adoption.
- Familiarity with how APIs are built and run: CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, monitoring, and API analytics.
- Exposure to API styles beyond REST, such as event-driven APIs, GraphQL, or gRPC.
- Exposure to cloud technologies, enterprise architecture, and platform modernization.
- Experience contributing to large-scale digital transformation initiatives.
- Experience working in a large, global, cross-functional organization.
- MBA or equivalent business qualification is an advantage.
- What's in it for me?
