Schroders Finance/FinTech

Senior Analyst, Operational Accounting & Control

London, United Kingdom In person Full-time

Who we’re looking for

We are looking for someone who can take ownership of cost and revenue accounting outcomes for a portfolio of entities, while helping shape the future development of the Operational Accounting & Control team. You will work closely with colleagues and stakeholders to understand the drivers of financial movements, identify opportunities to improve processes and controls, and deliver projects and operational improvements.

The successful candidate will be proactive, collaborative and comfortable identifying problems, challenging established ways of working, driving projects forward and using automation, data and artificial intelligence to improve efficiency, insight and control.

About Us

Schroders is a global investment manager which provides active asset management, wealth management and investment solutions. We aim to provide excellent investment performance to clients through active management. We serve a diverse client base that includes pension schemes, insurance companies, sovereign wealth funds, endowments, foundations, high net worth individuals, family offices, as well as end clients through partnerships with distributors, financial advisers, and online platforms.

Established in 1804, we have around 5,500 people across 36 global locations. Schroders' success can be attributed to its diversified business model, spanning different asset classes, client types and geographies.

The base

We moved into our new HQ in the City of London in 2018. We’re close to our clients, in the heart of the UK’s financial centre and we have everything we need to work flexibly.

What you'll do

You'll be part of the Operational Accounting & Control team, which is responsible for the accounting outcomes, control framework and analytical review of costs, revenue and balance sheet positions across Schroders. The team is a key link between operational finance teams, Financial Control and FP&A, helping to provide insight into the drivers of financial performance and supporting accurate and well-controlled financial reporting.

We are also developing a stronger focus on operational excellence, including standardisation, automation, data quality, artificial intelligence and effective ownership of end-to-end finance processes. You will be required to:

Take ownership of cost and revenue accounting outcomes, coordinating and delivering month-end activities to agreed timelines.

Review profit and loss and balance sheet positions, investigate material or unusual movements and provide clear commentary on the underlying business drivers.

Work with operational finance teams to understand and resolve issues at source, helping to improve the effectiveness of end-to-end processes.

Turn ideas into practical changes by defining problems and opportunities, developing options, engaging stakeholders, testing solutions and embedding improvements into business as usual.

Proactively identify opportunities to simplify, standardise and strengthen processes across cost and revenue accounting.

Maintain a strong focus on financial controls, ensuring risks and issues are identified, understood, addressed and communicated appropriately.

Actively contribute to the wider team by sharing knowledge, supporting colleagues and helping deliver against shared objectives.

The knowledge, experience and qualifications you need

Experience taking ownership of tasks and delivering high-quality outcomes to deadlines.

A proven ability to identify opportunities, challenge existing approaches and deliver practical improvements, rather than only operate established processes.

Confidence using finance systems and data, with a genuine interest in automation, artificial intelligence and new ways of working.

The ability to organise work effectively, manage dependencies, follow through on actions and keep stakeholders informed when delivering change and improvement initiatives.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a broad range of stakeholders.

A strong team ethic, demonstrated through collaboration, accountability and helping the team deliver against its commitments.

An understanding of financial statements, accounting processes and controls.

Strong analytical skills, with the ability to identify drivers of financial and operational movements and translate them into clear insights and practical actions.

The knowledge, experience and qualifications that’ll help

A recognised accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) would be beneficial but is not essential where a candidate brings equivalent experience from an adjacent discipline such as finance technology, data and automation, project or change management, together with a strong ability to learn quickly.
