Head of Investment Risk and Analytics

Remote Full-time

Location: USA - PA - Oaks

The Head of Investment Risk & Analytics will design and build the Investment Management Unit's oversight application: a consolidated, drillable view of portfolio risk, liquidity risk, factor exposures, counterparty risk, implementation quality, performance attribution, model status, and decision history across every investment strategy and OCIO relationship. The role must make risk transparent and actionable for portfolio managers and the CIO, while creating the evidence base needed for fiduciary oversight, model governance, and future internalization of investment manufacturing.

This is both a builder’s role and a practitioner’s role. We are looking for a front-office leader who has personally managed portfolios, led quantitative research, built production investment platforms, and translated complex risk into decisions for CIOs, portfolio managers, distribution teams, and institutional clients.

What You Will Do

  • Analytics integration and the common platform
  • -Bring together the analytics capabilities in use across investment, OCIO, and manager research teams, third-party platforms and internally built applications alike, into one coordinated environment.
  • -Build the data infrastructure beneath the platform: automated pipelines, reconciled security and position masters, vendor-data governance, and auditable lineage from source data to portfolio decision, client reporting, and oversight review.
  • CIO oversight and fiduciary support
  • Design and build the CIO’s oversight application: a consolidated, drillable view of risk taking across all investment strategies, asset classes, and OCIO relationships.
  • Establish consistent standards for risk aggregation, limits monitoring, and exception escalation so that oversight and fiduciary responsibilities are supported by auditable, comparable analytics rather than team-by-team reporting.

AI-integrated decision making

Embed AI directly into investment applications: LLM-driven analysis, retrieval, synthesis, monitoring, and decision-support features integrated at the application layer, not bolted on afterward, so that risk context reaches portfolio managers inside the tools where decisions are made.

Partner with the Chief AI Strategist and Head of AI Orchestration to align investment-side AI adoption with the enterprise AI roadmap, contributing production use cases rather than proofs of concept.

Partnership across and beyond the organization

  • Within the CIO organization, connect quantitative equity, fixed income, macro, OCIO, and manager research teams through shared platforms and joint development, replacing team-by-team tooling decisions with one coordinated roadmap.
  • Partner with the Chief Data Officer on data architecture and governance, and represent the investment organization within SEI’s enterprise data and AI leadership group.
  • Make shared development the norm: every major platform initiative should have named partners outside the immediate team.

Client engagement and risk communication

-Represent SEI’s investment risk and analytics capability in RFPs, due diligence meetings, webinars, and client reviews, making complex portfolio, factor, ALM/LDI, and scenario analytics clear, decision-relevant, and commercially useful.

Team and thought leadership

  • Lead, develop, and shape a team spanning quantitative analytics, data engineering, and application development; recruit hybrid talent that combines investment domain knowledge with hands-on engineering ability.
  • Represent SEI’s investment analytics perspective externally through research, publication, and industry engagement.

What You Bring

The ideal candidate brings

A career spent in the front office: 15+ years in quantitative investment management, portfolio management, asset allocation, managed volatility, institutional solutions, or related multi-asset disciplines, including direct accountability for risk taking and investment outcomes at scale.

Experience leading quantitative research or analytics teams, hiring and developing technical investment talent, owning model documentation, responding to model-risk review, and improving the rigor of portfolio construction and investment decision processes.

The communication skills to present complex risk analytics to current and prospective clients at an expert level, earning the confidence of sophisticated institutional audiences.

A demonstrated record of personally designing and building front-office platforms used daily by portfolio managers, CIOs, investment teams, and distribution partners: portfolio construction, risk decomposition, optimization engines, simulation frameworks, sales enablement, oversight dashboards, and attribution systems. The ideal candidate has built these systems personally, not merely overseen their procurement.

Experience aggregating positions, risk, and analytics across a global investment platform from multiple vendor and internal engines, including systems such as Bloomberg PORT/PREP, Snowflake, Postgres, Aladdin, Axioma, MSCI BarraOne, or similar, delivered as a working oversight platform for senior investment leaders.

Hands-on technical depth across the modern data and analytics stack: Python, SQL, JavaScript, R or MATLAB, relational databases, cloud data warehousing, web application frameworks, institutional risk platforms, and portfolio analytics systems.

Daily personal use of AI-assisted and agentic development tools, and experience integrating large language models via API directly into investment applications for research, analysis, automation, monitoring, and decision support.

Credibility with senior investment leaders, portfolio managers, research teams, engineers, enterprise data partners, and client-facing teams, built from technical fluency, investment judgment, and a record of delivering platforms that investment professionals actually use.

Experience modeling public and private assets for complex institutional clients, including OCIO, insurance general account, pension, ALM/LDI, surplus risk, target-date, and outcome-oriented mandates; knowledge of digital assets, prediction markets, or emerging market-structure topics is a plus.

A graduate degree in a quantitative discipline; CFA charterholder and published research in portfolio construction, risk modeling, or asset allocation preferred.

A record of published or public thought leadership on portfolio construction, covariance forecasting, asset allocation, risk modeling, real assets, target-date design, or related institutional investment topics is strongly preferred.
