Position Summary
We are seeking a full-time Computer Science Intern to join our team for the Summer of 2026 in our Knoxville, Tennessee facility. The intern's primary project will be the development of a semi-automated image analysis tool for carbon processing from scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in developing and refining a Python-based GUI using PyQt5 and OpenCV.
- Support integration of analysis features and image segmentation tools.
- Help test and debug new functionality across different image sets.
- Contribute to UI improvements for usability and reproducibility in scientific data workflows.
Background coding Knowledge
- Python is required, C++ is a bonus to understand the API’s.
- Knowledge of PyQt5 or other GUI frameworks is strongly preferred.
- OpenCV for image processing is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with NumPy and Matplotlib.
- Familiar with understanding image segmentation, masking, or broad image analysis.
- Course Requirements/Level of expertise: Junior level and above.
- Other Requirements: Must be a U.S. Citizen.
