Sonar Source Technology/Software

Senior Technical Architect & Developer – Marketing Automation

Austin, TX In person Full-time

Who is Sonar? Sonar enables organizations to ship agentic code with confidence. Code creation is abundant, but confidence is scarce. Our core platform, SonarQube, verifies over 750 billion lines of code every day, delivering agentic verification and governance for all code. Trusted by more than 7 million developers and 75% of the Fortune 100, including teams at Nvidia, ServiceNow, Booking.com , Goldman Sachs, AstraZeneca, and Ford Motor Company, Sonar enables organizations to reduce outages, improve security, and lower the cost and risk of agentic software development.

Founded in Geneva and now headquartered in Austin, Texas, Sonar has a global team working across offices and hubs, including Silicon Valley, London, Bochum, Barcelona, Singapore, Tokyo, and the Washington, D.C. area. At Sonar, we’re enabling enterprises to build agentic software factories that can move quickly while maintaining the control, consistency and evidence required to ship with confidence. Position Description We are seeking a deeply technical Marketing Technology Architect / Developer to lead the data architecture, custom code development, system integrations, and infrastructure scalability of our marketing engine.

Our day-to-day stack currently relies on Salesforce Marketing Cloud (SFMC) as our primary engine, and we are actively considering next-generation architecture like Marketing Cloud Next. However, for us, specific tool proficiency takes a backseat to a genuine passion for marketing technology, AI-driven marketing innovations, robust data architecture, and technical problem-solving. We value your ability to analyze complex data models, integrate APIs, write clean code, and optimize high-throughput automation pipelines over specific certifications.

If you are a platform-agnostic technologist passionate about marketing tech stack mechanics and AI marketing tools, this role provides the scope and autonomy to build world-class system infrastructure. What you will do Data Architecture & Engineering Operations Enablement: Prepare, clean, structure, and model all marketing data specifically so that Marketing Operations teams can seamlessly run campaigns, execute audience segmentations, and manage daily platform operations without technical friction.

Data Modeling: Design, build, and optimize scalable relational database structures, data extensions, custom data models, and subscriber key lifecycles tailored to Marketing Operational needs. ETL & Data Pipelines: Collaborate with our Data Team to build high-performance automated SQL queries and ETL pipelines to ingest, clean, transform, and map large datasets from internal data warehouse (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery) into production-ready data extensions for the Ops team.

Governance & Hygiene: Maintain data hygiene, identity resolution, deduplication protocols, and real-time data sync across the Marketing tech ecosystem to safeguard operational efficiency. Technical Customization & Custom Development Write clean, maintainable, and scalable custom platform code (e.g., AMPscript, Server-Side JavaScript / SSJS, WSProxy, or equivalent scripting/logic frameworks) to power complex personalization engines.

Develop custom dynamic rendering logic, interactive web forms, and landing pages with secure backend logic. Troubleshoot complex automation failures, script exceptions, and high-volume data transformation bottlenecks. API & Ecosystem Integrations Architect, configure, and maintain robust API integrations (REST, SOAP, Webhooks) connecting our core product applications, mobile backends, and third-party systems to the marketing platform.

Configure native CRM and enterprise database connectors, ensuring bidirectional real-time data consistency and minimal latency. Manage API rate limits, payload efficiency, OAuth authentication, and failure retry handlers across all integration touchpoints. Platform Operations & System Health Monitor automation runtimes, script performance, and query execution efficiency to maintain 99.9% operational uptime. Lead platform security governance, business unit/partition structuring, user permissions, and global privacy compliance (GDPR, CCPA, CAN-SPAM).

Partner with DevOps and IT Security to oversee domain authentication (DKIM, SPF, DMARC), dedicated IP management, and deliverability infrastructure. Experience and qualifications Core Technical Competencies Advanced SQL & Database Design: Heavy hands-on experience structuring relational data models, writing complex joins, data aggregation, and query performance tuning. Integrations & Protocols: Solid grasp of REST and SOAP APIs, JSON/XML payload construction, authentication standards (OAuth 2.0), webhooks, and API test tools (Postman).

Scripting & Code: Mastery of platform-specific scripting (AMPscript, SSJS) or strong proficiency in general languages like JavaScript, Node.js, or Python, with an eagerness to apply programming principles to marketing technology. MarTech & AI System Curiosity: A deep, genuine passion for understanding how marketing systems work under the hood—from event-driven triggers and relational data mapping to agentic AI workflows, CDP data models, and automated personalization engines.

Experience 3+ years of hands-on technical architecture, system administration, or custom development inside Salesforce Marketing Cloud (SFMC) (Automation Studio, Journey Builder technical configurations, Contact Builder, CloudPages, API integrations, or early exposure to Marketing Cloud Next / Data Cloud / AI frameworks). Demonstrated curiosity and practical understanding of how AI (Predictive AI, Generative AI, or Agentic AI frameworks) is transforming technical marketing execution.

Proven track record of evaluating, adopting, and mastering new marketing platforms and technical tools throughout your career. Key Personality Traits Technology & AI Enthusiast: You actively follow developments in marketing technology, Customer Data Platforms (CDPs), AI-driven marketing automation, and modern data engineering practices. Platform Agnostic: You view tools and AI models as vehicles to solve data and communication problems, not as rigid boundaries.

Problem Solver: You enjoy untangling complex data bugs, race conditions, integration failures, and AI logic edge-cases. In-office culture We're intentional about this. We believe the best teams are built in the room together. Three anchor days — Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays — create the collaboration rhythm that makes a hub office worth having. Candidates need to be genuinely based in the location the role is posted — if that's not where you are today, we're happy to support relocation for the right person.
