Sonova Healthcare/BioTech

Embedded Software Engineer

Switzerland Hybrid Full-time

At Sonova R&D, we are not just developing hearing devices, we are shaping the future of hearing technology. At the heart of this transformation is the deployment and execution of neural networks on our next-generation embedded platform. This requires innovative tools and firmware infrastructure, giving you the opportunity to directly influence the performance of our products.

As our new Embedded Software Engineer, you will join a team bringing cutting-edge AI to our hearing devices. Your focus will be on developing the embedded software stack that forms the foundation of our next-generation hearing instruments, bridging the gap between AI and ultra-low-power embedded systems.

Are you excited to explore new technological territory and play a pivotal role in shaping Sonova’s edge AI capabilities? Join us and help rethink how embedded software is built to enhance people’s hearing experience and quality of life.

More about the role

Design, develop and maintain firmware for a deeply embedded platform operating under strict latency, memory, compute, and energy constraints.

Debug complex issues directly on target hardware and simulators.

Contribute to the integration and deployment process of neural networks in hearing-device firmware, working with AI and DSP experts.

Advise AI developers on tailoring neural networks to the embedded platform’s quantization, memory, compute, and power constraints.

Work with other engineering teams to develop prototypes, turn them into production-ready features, and integrate them into our system.

Ensure high software quality through clean-code practices, code reviews, testing, documentation, maintenance, and root-cause analysis.

More about you

Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.

Strong hands-on experience developing embedded software in C or C++, including object-oriented design, and practical experience using Python for development tools and automation.

Experience profiling embedded software to identify performance bottlenecks and optimizing execution time, memory usage, and energy consumption on resource-constrained systems.

Knowledge of embedded tooling (compiler, debugger, simulators, ...).

Experience developing and integrating software on resource-constrained embedded systems.

Fluent English, with strong written and verbal communication skills.

Familiarity with micro-NPU, deployment of neural networks and frameworks such as TensorFlow Lite, ONNX, TVM, or ExecuTorch, is an advantage.

Knowledge of audio or digital signal processing is an advantage.

Experience in bringing features to products is an advantage.
