What You'll Be Doing
The Special Assets Senior Portfolio Manager (“SASPM”) manages an assigned portfolio of criticized, classified, and other heightened-risk commercial credit relationships at Stifel Bank. The SASPM develops and executes workout and resolution strategies designed to protect the Bank’s interests, minimize losses, and maximize recovery for a portfolio of commercial loans, which may include venture-backed and sponsor-supported companies.
The SASPM leads the evaluation of borrower financial condition, liquidity, collateral, and recovery alternatives and works closely with borrowers, sponsors, investors, relationship teams, legal counsel, and credit leadership to achieve optimal outcomes. This position is also eligible to sit in St. Louis, Boston, or San Francisco.
What We're Looking For
Manage and maintain a portfolio of active problem loans.
Develop and implement corrective action plans, workout strategies, amendment structures, restructuring terms, covenant packages, and recovery paths that mitigate loss, preserve optionality, and maximize recovery to the Bank.
Lead negotiations with borrowers, sponsors, investors, and other stakeholders, and coordinate with legal counsel to execute approved amendments, forbearances, restructurings, settlements, and recovery actions.
Prepare credit memoranda, periodic reviews, situation updates, and risk rating recommendations for assigned borrowers. Ensure accurate and timely ratings, including support for nonaccrual, charge-off, specific reserve and forecast recommendations.
Prepare or oversee borrower financial, liquidity, cash-flow, collateral, and recovery analyses supporting recommended workout strategies and credit actions.
Coordinate analytical and underwriting assignments on the assigned portfolio with Associates and Analysts; review their work for accuracy, completeness, and alignment with the recommended strategy.
Engage consultants, restructuring advisors, valuation experts, bankruptcy counsel, and other external parties as needed to protect the Bank’s position and support resolution strategy.
Prepare information and participate, as requested, in management, committee, audit, and regulatory reviews of assigned relationships.

Strong working knowledge of U.S. bankruptcy, restructuring, insolvency, loan enforcement, collateral realization, and lender-liability considerations.
Ability to assess downside scenarios, identify early warning indicators, and translate risk findings into actionable credit decisions and portfolio-management steps. Ability to reassess strategy as borrower performance, collateral values, and available alternatives change.
Ability to meet strict deadlines and periodic internal reporting requirements, including timely communication of material developments to management, forecasting trends and risk rating migration in the assigned portfolio.
Ability to handle multiple complex relationships in various stages simultaneously.
Working knowledge of venture debt, growth-stage lending, sponsor-supported credit structures, enterprise-value lending, recurring-revenue business models, and complex capital structures preferred.
