Role Overview SugarAI ships AI-powered selling and sales intelligence products in a market that moves faster every day. As a Software Engineer, you own assigned features and components end-to-end — writing the specs, building against them with agentic tools, and making the judgment calls about what ships. The engineers who thrive here don't treat AI tools as a productivity add-on; they've fundamentally changed how they work, using agentic development workflows to go from specification to production-ready code faster than they could before, without sacrificing correctness or quality.
This is not a role for someone who favors traditional software development, or is curious about AI-assisted development and plans to explore it. It's a role for someone who already works this way — who writes clear, machine-readable specifications that feed the agentic development system, uses agentic development tools as standard equipment, and applies genuine critical judgment to what these tools produce before it ships.
You'll build systems and features that power real customer outcomes in a B2B SaaS platform at scale, and you'll do it inside a delivery model where human judgment is the differentiating input, not the bottleneck. If you want to work on meaningful software with teammates who hold the bar high on both speed and craft, this role is for you. What You'll Do Agentic Development Systems - Work from executable specifications — write clear SDD/BDD specs and acceptance criteria as the primary input for AI-assisted code generation, and keep them current as implementation evolves - Use agentic coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or equivalents) as standard equipment across the full SDLC, from spec to implementation to test generation to code review - Apply critical judgment to AI-generated code and agentic attestations before merge — assess correctness, edge cases, security implications, and alignment with the spec; your review is a real gate, not a formality - Contribute to the team's agentic development practices: spec standards, attestation norms, and how the team uses AI tools responsibly Feature Delivery - Design, implement, and ship features and components that are reliable, maintainable, and built to perform in high-volume, high-availability SaaS environments - Ensure agentic code is clean, well-tested, and follows the standards that make it easy to understand and extend by both agentic systems and your teammates - Own your feature areas end-to-end, from understanding the requirement to production delivery, including identifying and resolving defects before they reach customers Code Quality & Review - Review outputs, including AI-generated code and agentic attestations, with the care and rigor the team depends on; catch what automation misses - Orchestrate unit and integration test development that verifies real behavior, not just execution paths; apply the same critical eye to test quality as to production code - Contribute to the team's technical standards and raise the bar on engineering operations excellence and quality across all facets of our AI SDLC Collaboration & Systems Thinking - Work closely with product managers, designers, and QA engineers to understand requirements and build the right thing, not just the specified thing - Think beyond your immediate feature: understand the systems your code interacts with, the data it produces, and the downstream effects of your design decisions - Communicate clearly in writing — in specs, in code reviews, in async updates — to keep cross-functional and globally distributed teams aligned - Participate in agile and team ceremonies, including Sprint Review, Program Reviews, and other technical presentations What Success Looks Like - You can point to features you shipped from spec through production using agentic workflows and speak concretely, with data, to how that changed your delivery speed and code quality - The work you produce is easy for teammates to review, extend, and maintain — your specs are clear, your tests are meaningful, and your PRs tell a coherent story - AI-generated code you've attested has not introduced regressions or security issues that went undetected past your review; your attestation means something - Your teammates describe you as someone who raises the quality bar through reviews, not just through your own output - You understand the systems you work within well enough to anticipate where complexity will compound — and you surface that early Required Qualifications - Personal fluency with agentic coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or equivalents) — you use these in your daily work and in real delivery scenarios, not as an experiment - Hands-on experience with BDD/SDD frameworks and working from executable specifications as the primary input to development — this is how we work, not a practice you're learning on the job - 2–5 years of experience developing enterprise or SaaS software in production environments - Proficiency in at least one object-oriented or modern SaaS language; comfort picking up new languages and frameworks as the work demands - Experience with RESTful API design and consumption - Working knowledge of SQL and NoSQL data stores - Experience producing and maintaining automated test suites (unit, integration, or end-to-end) - Experience working in Agile delivery environments with CI/CD pipelines - Strong written communication skills; able to write clear specs, meaningful code review feedback, and async updates for a global team Preferred Qualifications - Experience with cloud platforms (AWS or equivalent) and microservices architectures - Familiarity with containerization, infrastructure-as-code, or observability tooling - Experience developing or integrating with AI/ML features in a production SaaS product - Background in B2B SaaS, CRM, or revenue technology We understand that no candidate is perfectly qualified for any job.
Experience comes in different forms; many skills are transferable; and passion goes a long way. Even more important than your resume is a clear demonstration of dedication, impact, and the ability to thrive in a fluid and collaborative environment. We want you to learn new things in this role, and we encourage you to apply if your experience is close to what we’re looking for. We also know that diversity of background and thought makes for better problem solving and more creative thinking, which is why we're dedicated to adding new perspectives to the team.
