About the Role
Joining the Commercial Insurance Legal team, you will enjoy a close-knit team that provides legal advice on indemnity, liability and quantum/settlement advice of commercial insurance claims, as well as respective portfolio and distribution teams.
The team supports Suncorp’s commercial property and property liability, professional indemnity, and strata claims teams within the Group, allowing you to make commercial and strategic impact for your clients.
What You’ll Do
Deliver great, commercially aware legal advice that the business can easily understand and action.
Provide expert legal advice on complex legal indemnity issues, liability, contributory negligence, quantum, settlement or complaints.
Partner with stakeholders across a diverse set of portfolios such as Commercial Property, Corporate & Major Loss, Liability, Professional Indemnity, Financial Lines, and Strata.
Prepare and finalise correspondence drafting.
Draft and review product disclosure statements, policy wordings, endorsements and notices, as well as review and advise on the distribution of these products (direct/broker/intermediary arrangements) and customer facing material (marketing, websites and digital customer portals).
Advise on regulatory compliance including financial services legislation, Insurance Contracts Act, ASIC, APRA, and other relevant regulation such as privacy laws or state scheme requirements.
Contribute to a high-performing, engaged legal team who have a continuous improvement mindset.
What You’ll Bring
To be successful in this role, you will have a strong commercial awareness and excellent technical skills across areas of legal indemnity (including policy interpretation), liability, quantum, settlement and costs across a range of insurance policies.
Specifically, you will demonstrate
- Practising Certificate and admission as a Solicitor or Barrister in any Australian Court - mandatory
- 5-10 years previous relevant experience in mid to top-tier law firm or large general insurer – highly desirable
- Strong analytical abilities and learning agility
- Exceptional communication skills – both written and verbal – and the ability to impact and influence stakeholders
- High ethical standards, agility under pressure, and a collaborative mindset
