Our compensation policies and practices have been designed to allow colleagues to progress through the salary range over time as they progress in their role. The base pay actually offered may vary based upon the candidate's skills and experience, job-related knowledge, geographic location, and other specific business and organizational needs.

The FCRM Model Management & Transaction Monitoring team leads the design, development, optimization, monitoring and governance of Transaction Monitoring (TM) models supporting Financial Crime Risk Management. In this role, as Associate Vice President, you’ll lead the end-to-end model lifecycle—from development, tuning and optimization to monitoring, testing, documentation and ongoing enhancements—to strengthen detection effectiveness and efficiency.

You’ll guide model performance in line with enterprise model risk management standards, methodologies and regulatory requirements, while shaping the strategic roadmap for TM capabilities. Drawing on emerging AML/ATF typologies, regulatory expectations and industry trends, you’ll help strengthen detection and address monitoring coverage gaps.

Depth and Scope

  • Lead the development and management of advanced models for all Transaction Monitoring system and technology projects, spanning design, optimization and tuning, monitoring, testing and documentation.
  • Own the Transaction Monitoring framework, scenario selection methodology and coverage assessment process, working with TD Technology to manage the end-to-end addition, removal and ongoing management of scenarios.
  • Recommend customer segmentation and optimization approaches for TD's monitoring system across multiple lines of business.
  • Continuously benchmark TD's Transaction Monitoring capabilities against peers to assess maturity, and partner with the Business Architecture team to advance those capabilities.
  • Drive modelling innovation in financial crime risk management through advanced statistics and AI/ML.
  • Shape the strategy for implementing Transaction Monitoring products, aligning delivery with Canadian regulatory and risk priorities.
  • Lead a team of FCRM professionals and data scientists in defining a clear product vision, strategy and roadmap across the full development lifecycle—from creation through version and infrastructure upgrades to decommissioning, where required.
  • Develop your team through talent acquisition, clear goals, employee development, performance management and compensation decisions, while fostering teamwork and addressing disciplinary matters as required.
  • Work closely with your US counterpart to develop and maintain a common Transaction Monitoring strategy, solutions and processes.
  • Bring together stakeholders, including FCRM Oversight teams, FCI and Model Validation, to lead Transaction Monitoring changes and overcome implementation barriers.
  • Collaborate with the Governance team, which owns governance of the Transaction Monitoring (TM) Coverage Map.
  • Influence the Transaction Monitoring roadmap and recommend ways to optimize FCRM data across all monitoring systems.

Education and Experience

  • Undergraduate degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • 15+ years of relevant AML and risk modelling experience and/or management experience within a risk function.
  • Significant exposure to common Transaction Monitoring systems, including Actimize, SAS and Oracle.
  • Experience developing documentation that meets the highest regulatory standards and audit requirements.
  • Extensive knowledge of AML regulations, risks and appropriate controls.
  • Deep understanding of Transaction Monitoring products, including SAS, Actimize, Oracle and BAE, and their implementation within TD or peer organizations.
  • Knowledge of financial crime red flags and typologies in the US and Canada.
  • Strong understanding of key risk management concepts, including inherent risk, controls and residual risk.
  • A logical, creative approach to problem-solving, grounded in sound professional judgement, quality control and high standards.
  • Proven research and analytical skills.
  • Business acumen.
  • A strategic mindset and creative thinking.
  • Project leadership skills.
  • Strong communication skills—from active listening to clear writing, verbal communication and presentations.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to build connections and partnerships across all levels of the organization.
