Position Summary

We are seeking a Staff Engineer – DevOps to provide technical leadership in designing and advancing secure, reliable, scalable, and automated platforms supporting mission-critical software products.

This is a senior hands-on engineering role responsible for platform architecture, Linux systems engineering, AWS infrastructure, infrastructure automation, CI/CD, software packaging and distribution, networking, security, and production reliability.

The Staff Engineer will define technical direction, establish engineering standards, solve complex and cross-cutting technical challenges, mentor engineers, and drive platform improvements across teams while remaining hands-on with critical engineering work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define the technical direction and architecture for secure, reliable, scalable, and cost-efficient cloud and platform solutions.
  • Architect and guide AWS networking and security solutions including VPCs, subnets, routing, Transit Gateway, VPC endpoints, DNS, VPN, Direct Connect, AWS Network Firewall, security groups, network ACLs, and private/hybrid connectivity.
  • Design reusable Terraform modules and infrastructure automation patterns for multi-account and multi-environment deployments.
  • Establish engineering standards for Infrastructure as Code, state management, testing, code review, drift detection, policy enforcement, and controlled infrastructure changes.
  • Architect and advance CI/CD platforms, build workflows, release processes, and deployment automation using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, and related technologies.
  • Define scalable approaches for software build, packaging, validation, artifact management, promotion, release, and deployment.
  • Define and improve Linux software packaging and distribution approaches, including installation, upgrade, rollback, dependency management, and software distribution, particularly for Debian-based systems.
  • Provide technical leadership for Linux platform engineering across cloud and on-premise environments.
  • Define and improve configuration management and infrastructure automation using Ansible, Chef, Puppet, or similar technologies.
  • Define and improve containerization and orchestration solutions using Docker, Kubernetes, and Amazon EKS.
  • Drive platform reliability through observability, monitoring, alerting, capacity planning, resilience engineering, and automation.
  • Establish and promote security practices for IAM, encryption, secrets management, vulnerability management, logging, compliance, network security, and least privilege.
  • Lead investigation and resolution of complex problems across Linux, AWS, networking, CI/CD, packaging, infrastructure, and application deployment layers.
  • Provide technical leadership during complex production incidents, driving troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, resolution, and preventive improvements.
  • Evaluate technical trade-offs and develop innovative solutions to complex and ambiguous engineering problems.
  • Lead technical design and architecture reviews and influence engineering practices across teams.
  • Mentor and coach engineers, provide technical guidance, and strengthen the overall engineering capability of the team.
  • Collaborate with software engineering, infrastructure, security, and leadership teams to drive platform strategy and continuous improvement.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10–15 years of experience in DevOps, Linux Systems Engineering, Platform Engineering, Cloud Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, or a related technical role.
  • Demonstrated experience providing technical leadership, designing platform solutions, solving complex infrastructure problems, leading technical initiatives, and mentoring engineers.

Core Competencies

  • Deep hands-on expertise in Linux systems engineering and administration, particularly Debian and Debian-derived distributions such as Ubuntu.
  • Deep understanding of Linux internals, system services, process management, permissions, networking, storage, file systems, system configuration, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong experience with Debian (.deb) packaging, APT, dpkg, dependency management, and software distribution workflows.
  • Proven experience architecting and operating AWS platforms, including networking, security, firewalls, and private/hybrid connectivity.
  • Strong expertise in Terraform and Infrastructure as Code, including reusable architecture and automated provisioning.
  • Strong experience architecting and improving CI/CD, build, packaging, release, and deployment automation using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or similar platforms.
  • Strong experience with configuration management, Git, Docker, Kubernetes, and Amazon EKS.
  • Proficiency with Bash, Python, or similar languages for platform automation and troubleshooting.
  • Exceptional troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills across Linux, infrastructure, networking, CI/CD, and software delivery.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership and architectural decision-making, with the ability to influence engineering direction across teams.
  • Ability to develop practical and innovative solutions to complex, ambiguous, and cross-functional technical challenges.
  • Strong mentoring and coaching skills, with the ability to develop engineers and raise engineering standards across the team.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across engineering, infrastructure, security, and leadership teams.
