This role partners closely with first line of defense (1LoD) technology and controls teams — including, but not limited to: Cybersecurity, Corporate Technology, Nuveen Technology, Wealth Technology, and the Enterprise Vendor Program Office — to monitor, escalate, and report on significant risks and control weaknesses.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

The officer collaborates with business-aligned control teams to ensure RCSAs reflect a comprehensive view of the technology control environment that critical business functions depend upon.

Issue Management: The Technology Risk Officer provides governance and 2LoD challenge across the Issue Management Program, including reviewing issue rating criticality, evaluating action plans for adequacy in addressing identified control gaps, assessing risk-accepted issues for adherence to requirements.

Policy, Standards & Regulatory Alignment: This role provides 2LoD support and challenge of TIAA’s Information Technology Policy and IT Standards, including evaluating proposed policy changes that could affect technology teams.

Reporting & Risk Appetite: The Technology Risk Officer provides support to management for producing risk management committee materials, metrics reporting and other related analysis, as needed.
