AI is part of how we work at Trek, and it is part of how you will work every day. At every level, you are expected to use AI tools and assistants to work smarter, faster, and with greater precision. As you grow, your relationship with AI deepens - from using AI to resolve issues and draft documentation, to designing AI-assisted workflows, building automations, and ultimately setting the AI strategy for your team.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Systems & Cloud Engineer II is an independent contributor who owns defined infrastructure areas across cloud, virtualization, HCI, and operational tooling. This role builds and maintains cloud and on-premises resources, contributes to IaC and automation, and begins mentoring Level I engineers.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design and implement cloud resources: virtual machines, networking, storage, and identity integrations across primary and secondary cloud environments
- Administer and maintain the hyperconverged infrastructure platform: cluster health, storage policies, VM lifecycle, and capacity monitoring
- Manage enterprise virtualization environments including compute virtualization, virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), and remote application delivery platforms
- Build and maintain IaC modules for repeatable infrastructure provisioning across cloud and on-premises environments
- Contribute to CI/CD pipeline development for infrastructure and application deployments
- Implement monitoring, alerting, and logging for owned infrastructure; use infrastructure monitoring and operations management platforms to maintain visibility across the hybrid environment
- Administer the SIEM and log aggregation platform: ensure log sources are ingested, retention policies are met, and alert rules are tuned
- Manage the managed file transfer (MFT) platform: configure transfer jobs, manage user accounts, monitor for failures, and maintain audit logs
- Perform capacity planning and cost optimization for cloud resources; assist with co-location and managed service provider coordination
Mentor Systems & Cloud Engineer I
AI & AUTOMATION EXPECTATIONS
- Use AI coding assistants to accelerate IaC development and script writing - treat generated code as a first draft requiring review and testing
- Use AI to analyze infrastructure logs and monitoring data for anomaly detection and performance insights across cloud, HCI, and virtualization platforms
- Build AI-assisted deployment documentation and post-implementation reports
- Contribute AI-validated IaC patterns to the team's shared module library
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree or 3+ years of cloud or systems engineering experience
- Hands-on cloud infrastructure experience across compute, networking, storage, and identity
- Hyperconverged infrastructure or enterprise virtualization platform experience
- Working IaC experience (Terraform or equivalent)
- CI/CD pipeline experience
- Intermediate PowerShell or Bash scripting
- Relevant cloud certification preferred
PATH TO NEXT LEVEL
To advance to Systems & Cloud Engineer III, own a significant infrastructure domain, lead a project end-to-end, build reusable IaC modules adopted by the team, demonstrate AI/automation contributions with measurable impact, and mentor Level I engineers. Typically, 2-3 years at Level II.
