The Function & Team

The team sits within Investment Finance & Operations (IF&O) which is part of the Private Credit function. Our Private Credit business manages a diverse portfolio of lending and leasing investments, operating across multiple funds, legal entities and lending structures. As the business grows, we are investing in our Finance function to strengthen technical expertise, financial controls and scalable reporting.

The function supports financial control with all aspects of month end reporting, board reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, audit and tax for the Private Credit business, which offers loans & leases with a portfolio of approximately £1.2bn. A key priority of the role will be to enhance existing processes and support with day-to-day plus areas of improvement.

Key Responsibilities & Role purpose

We are seeking a qualified accountant with hands-on experience of lending to join our Private Credit Finance team as Financial Accountant.

Reporting to a Senior Finance Manager, you will own the day-to-day accounting and month-end close and support reporting, for the Navigator strategy’s lending investments across its funds and legal entities. Navigator is one of the two investment strategies under Private Credit, it covers sectors such as SME Debt Finance, Speciality Finance and Property Development.

You will be the first point of contact for finance matters on Navigator and will own the balance sheet reconciliations for multiple entities across Private Credit. You will work closely with the Private Credit Operations team, particularly on loan book reconciliations.

The role sits within a growing team that includes a newly created Finance Manager – Technical Accounting, and is central to our plans to simplify processes, strengthen controls and automate manual reporting. While your focus will be Navigator, you will provide cover for the Generations strategy when needed.

We are looking for someone who is accurate, organised and curious about the business, with the confidence to take ownership of deliverables and improve how things are done.

  • Month-End Close & Reporting
  • Own the month-end close for the Navigator strategy, preparing journals to agreed timetables.
  • Assist the Senior Finance Managers with monthly management accounts and management information for Navigator, including loanbook balances, income analysis, yields, arrears and performance against budget.
  • Assist with fund and investor reporting for the Navigator strategy, and support funder and lender reporting where finance data is required.
  • Lending Accounting
  • Account for loans across their life cycle, including drawdowns, repayments, interest income, arrangement fees and accrued income.
  • Prepare impairment calculations and provisions including present value impacts, working with the Restructuring team.
  • Work with the Finance Manager – Technical Accounting to apply accounting policies consistently and to assess new products or structures within the strategy.
  • Reconciliations & Financial Controls
  • Own the balance sheet reconciliations for multiple entities across Private Credit, preparing them to agreed timetables, investigating and clearing differences promptly and presenting them for review by the Senior Finance Managers.
  • Reconcile the loan books between the portfolio administration system, bank and general ledger, working closely with the Private Credit Operations team to investigate and resolve differences.
  • Operate and document key accounting controls, identifying gaps and recommending practical improvements.
  • Ensure cash, bank and intercompany balances are accurately recorded and reconciled.
  • Statutory Accounts & Audit
  • Prepare UK GAAP (FRS 102) statutory financial statements and supporting working papers for Navigator entities.
  • Prepare audit PBC deliverables and respond to auditor queries, working with the Finance Manager – Technical Accounting, who leads the external audit process.
  • Support VAT and tax compliance for lending transactions, working with the tax team and advisers.
  • Systems, Processes & Continuous Improvement
  • Identify manual, repetitive steps and help deliver simplification and automation across the month-end and reporting process.
  • Contribute to improvements in financial systems and data quality, ideally NetSuite or another ERP.
  • Maintain clear process notes and desk instructions for the strategy’s accounting.
  • Work closely with the Finance Assistants in the team, sharing knowledge and helping them develop.

  • Strong month-end close, journal and balance sheet reconciliation skills, including owning reconciliations across multiple entities.
  • Good working knowledge of UK GAAP, particularly FRS 102.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience working with financial accounting systems and large data sets.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines across several entities.
