Vattenfall Energy

Working Student / Intern – Battery Project Development & Energy Storage (f/m/d)

Hamburg, Germany Hybrid Internship

Vattenfall is one of Europe’s largest energy companies. Our mission is to enable a fossil free living within one generation.

Within our Solar & Batteries business unit, we develop, build and operate large-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). These systems support the integration of renewable energy and strengthen the resilience of the European electricity system.

To support our growing portfolio of battery projects, we are looking for a motivated working student or intern to join our Batteries team in Hamburg. You will work alongside experienced project developers, engineers and commercial specialists and gain hands-on insight into one of the most dynamic areas of the energy transition.

If you enjoy taking ownership, working independently and helping shape the future of energy storage in Germany and across Europe, this could be the right opportunity for you.

As part of our team, you will support a wide range of activities related to the development and delivery of utility-scale battery projects:

Supporting project development and project coordination activities

Maintaining and structuring information libraries, databases and SharePoint workspaces

Tracking project activities, milestones and action items

Preparing presentations, reports and decision-making materials

Supporting regulatory and permitting-related activities

Conducting market, policy and technology research related to battery storage

Assisting with process improvement and knowledge management initiatives

Supporting the preparation and review of project documentation

Participating actively in team meetings, workshops and project discussions

Depending on your interests and background, you may also contribute to technical, commercial or strategic workstreams.

Your profile

You enjoy taking ownership, work independently and are motivated to learn in a fast-moving and collaborative environment:

Education: Enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree programme in Engineering, Renewable Energy, Energy Economics, Business Administration, Industrial Engineering or a related field

Availability: At least 12 months remaining before graduation and sufficient progress in your studies to take on tasks independently

Interest: A genuine interest in the energy transition and battery storage technologies

Working style: Organised, proactive and comfortable working independently with a high degree of ownership

Collaboration: Strong communication and teamwork skills

Tools: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly PowerPoint and Excel; experience with SharePoint or document management systems is an advantage

Languages: Fluency in written and spoken English is required; German language skills are a significant advantage but not a prerequisite

Applications from both Bachelor’s and Master’s students are welcome. Preference will be given to candidates who are pursuing a Master’s degree, can stay with the team for at least one year and are interested in developing a deeper understanding of utility-scale energy infrastructure projects.

Location: Hamburg, Germany

Start date: as soon as possible

Duration: Minimum 12 months for working students

Working time: 15–20 hours per week during the semester, with increased flexibility during semester breaks
