Software Engineer II - C++

Location: Bangalore, Karnataka, India

Role Overview

We are seeking a Software Engineer to join the team responsible for one of X-Rite's strategically important desktop software products. This product plays a critical role in our customers' workflows and has a large installed base worldwide.

The role focuses on maintaining and enhancing an established Windows desktop application written primarily in C++. Working alongside senior engineers, the successful candidate will contribute to new feature development, bug fixing, testing, and modernization activities while gaining experience with a mature commercial software product.

This position is ideal for an engineer who enjoys learning from experienced team members, working with complex software systems, and developing strong expertise in desktop software engineering.

Key Responsibilities

• Contribute to the development and maintenance of a business-critical desktop application written in C++.
• Implement new features under the guidance of senior engineers.
• Investigate and resolve software defects and customer-reported issues.
• Participate in improving code quality, maintainability, and test coverage.
• Assist with modernization efforts, including improvements to development tools and build systems.
• Develop and maintain automated unit and integration tests.
• Participate in code reviews and technical discussions.
• Collaborate with Product Management, Quality Assurance, Application Support, and other engineering teams.
• Learn and apply software engineering best practices within an established commercial product environment.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the product and development process.

Required Qualifications & Professional Knowledge

• Professional software development experience (internships and co-op experience may be considered).
• Good knowledge and experience of C++ and object-oriented programming concepts.
• Understanding of software design principles and data structures.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Visual Studio and Windows application development.
• Basic understanding of source control systems such as Git.
• Familiarity with software testing concepts and debugging techniques.
• Exposure to build systems such as CMake is desirable.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within a global, cross-functional team.
• Eagerness to learn and grow as a software engineer.

Preferred Qualifications

• 4-7 years of experience developing desktop applications.
• Academic, internship, or professional experience with C++ projects.
• Familiarity with software development processes, including Agile methodologies.
• Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.
• Experience contributing to commercial software products or large software projects.
• Experience working in geographically distributed teams.
• Nice to Have
• Exposure to Microsoft Foundation Classes (MFC).
• Experience with dependency management solutions such as vcpkg, Conan, or NuGet.
• Familiarity with installer technologies such as MSI, WiX, or InstallShield.
• Experience working with hardware-connected desktop applications.

Education & Experience

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

Software development experience, including internships, co-op assignments, or full-time roles.
