T14 – Senior Principal Engineer Software (Architect Role)
JOB SUMMARY & RESPONSIBILITIES
We are seeking a Senior Principal Engineer Software to provide technical and architectural leadership for KVM&S software products and platforms. The role requires deep product knowledge, strong system-level thinking, and the ability to define and guide software architecture across complex product features and modernization initiatives. The candidate will work closely with engineering leadership, product management, development, test/QA, DevOps, and other corporate functions to evolve product capabilities, improve engineering quality, and deliver robust, scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions.
The role combines hands-on technical leadership with architecture ownership, technical mentoring, and cross-team execution alignment.
Own and evolve software architecture and high-level design for assigned KVM&S product areas, including ACS and related management capabilities.
Apply deep product and domain knowledge to translate product requirements, customer needs, and platform constraints into sustainable technical solutions.
Lead architecture and design for complex software features, services, APIs, integrations, and modernization initiatives; document key decisions, trade-offs, interfaces, and non-functional requirements.
Evaluate architectural options with respect to scalability, performance, reliability, security, maintainability, interoperability, and deployment constraints.
Provide technical direction across development teams, review designs and critical code changes, and establish engineering patterns and best practices.
Drive cloud-enablement and cloud-related engineering initiatives, including relevant Azure and MP1000 Virtual Appliance considerations, in partnership with platform, infrastructure, and DevOps teams.
Lead software modernization and technical-debt reduction by assessing legacy components, defining migration/refactoring approaches, and balancing business priorities with long-term product health.
Work with Development and Test/QA leadership to establish quality strategies, improve testability, resolve systemic defects, and strengthen product reliability.
Provide technical leadership for complex debugging, root-cause analysis, customer escalations, and cross-component integration issues.
Mentor and coach engineers and technical leads; promote knowledge sharing, design reviews, and stronger architectural capability across the team.
Support effective Agile execution by helping establish clear technical scope, identifying dependencies and risks early, and aligning sprint commitments with architecture and delivery priorities.
Collaborate with Product Management, Support, QA, DevOps, and other corporate functions to communicate product capabilities, clarify requirements, and drive cross-functional decisions.
Identify opportunities for AI-assisted engineering, automation, developer productivity, and innovation; assess practical use cases and help translate suitable ideas into measurable improvements.
Contribute to technology roadmaps, architecture standards, technical proposals, proof-of-concepts, and engineering improvement initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
Extensive software engineering experience with strong capability in system design, software architecture, and delivery of complex products.
15+ years of industries experience.
Strong experience with Linux-based software systems and relevant programming/scripting technologies used across the product stack, such as C/C++, Go, Python, and shell scripting.
Strong experience designing and developing service-based software and APIs, including REST and/or gRPC, and familiarity with asynchronous messaging or distributed-system patterns.
Experience with software configuration management and collaborative development workflows using Git-based platforms such as GitHub or GitLab.
Understanding of CI/CD pipelines, automated build and deployment practices, and containerized application environments such as Docker.
Demonstrated ability to evaluate architecture trade-offs and address non-functional requirements including performance, reliability, security, scalability, and maintainability.
Strong debugging, root-cause analysis, and problem-solving skills across software and system boundaries.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical decisions to engineering teams and cross-functional stakeholders.
Demonstrated technical leadership, mentoring, design-review, and cross-team collaboration capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Deep product knowledge in access appliances, device-management platforms, ACS, or related KVM&S solutions.
- Experience with cloud architecture and deployment models, preferably Microsoft Azure, and virtual-appliance deployment considerations.
- Experience with software modernization, legacy-system refactoring, platform evolution, and technical-debt management.
- Knowledge of object-oriented design, design patterns, multi-threading, distributed systems, and service-oriented architecture.
- Experience with protocol buffers, databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL, database schema design, and SQL.
- Knowledge of web/server technologies such as NGINX and network or server-management protocols such as SNMP, SMTP, and TCP/IP.
- Experience partnering with QA, DevOps, Product Management, Support, and other teams to deliver integrated product capabilities.
- Experience with AI-assisted software development, engineering automation, or applying AI/ML concepts to practical engineering workflows.
- Experience leading Agile/Scrum execution, coordinating dependencies, improving delivery predictability, and enabling team members to deliver effectively.
